    Hi all,

I was told by my mechanic I needed to replace the support bar that is rusting (just in front of the rear wheels on underside of 2010 prius) in order to pass an inspection later this year. However, I cant identify exactly what it is and what oem or aftermarket part numbers/products might work as a replacement.

Any help is appreciated (picture attached)!

That's not in the parts breakdown for the rear end of the car isn't that like the rear sway bar or something?

Our ‘10 Touring (CDN model with 17" rims) has that, just checked. Yesterday I looked through Amayama and part.Toyota, sites, couldn't find it. @Elektroingenieur may be able to find it; he's unstoppable.

Or just stop by a dealership, ask the parts guy to come out and have a look; they should be able to find it.

You might be able to find some chassis brace for it.

Alternatively, you might be able to save it with a can of rust treatment depending on how bad your rust is.

    Check your build date--
    8/2009 or earlier: 53605-12021
    after 8/2009: 53605-47021

It's called "Support Brace" and it's ~$150 online.

Agreed, it doesn't look that bad. Take a wire wheel to it to remove the old finish and light rust. Then mask surrounding area and spray it with Rustoleum or similar product.

Edit: On closer inspection of the picture, that is really bad rot at the far end of the bar. It needs to be replaced.

Hey! this is probably late, but a Toyota tech and I spent an hour on the phone today figuring it out.. Apparently a very limited number of Prius 3 (2010 models only) have a racing frame with an extra support beam, your support beam is the one in question! I have the part number! It is... 53605F its only by special order* (you can probably find one somewhere) but the cost is 285 dollars (dealership price) to get it, replacing it however should be easy as its only a 14MM socket and 4 bolts. good luck! (mine is rusted as f* too)

You should be able to get online to Georgia United States a place called Conyers It's a town in Georgia like in the southeastern United States there are junk yards down there with miles of Prius several of them You could wear yourself out walking from one end of Prius to the other You could make a day of it at one junkyard almost Go to two or three of them and it'll take you a week these places are huge this is a southeastern United States where nothing rusts unless it's parked under a power line or something like that so these things should be plentiful 2010 should have been out of service now for a minute or they're in real good shape sitting in someone's yard needing a motor etc or you pay the $285 and if it's only the 2010 that has it I'll have to go out I have both a 10 and a 13 here what did they do in 13 just eliminate it so what will happen eliminating it on the 2010 car again I'd have to literally look at the breakdown to see what they changed maybe it's quicker to just change it to the later year type setup since you're replacing rusty parts anyway.
