Why don't you buy him a nice new pair of shoes and tell him to walk everywhere if he doesn't like the car. That will change his mind quick.

My kids like my Prius just a little better than our Echo, but they hated the Echo and didn't want to drive it - hmmmm, that's ok with me!! I never had them asking to borrow it, they just shared their old Civic....

I picked Tyler up from school yesterday and he was standing out front talking to a couple of girls. As we drove up I see his body language suggest he was talking about the car. As he opens the door, I hear one of them say, "but I think it looks cool" and the other one say, "yeah, I like it." No bribe needed Evan but it didn't change his mind a lick either. Oh well.

He did say however that a really powerful, eardrum splittin', window crackin', neighborhood shakin' sound system would make all the difference.

LOL! Have you put in the integrated XM and a subwoofer yet?

I think he's yankin' your chain dad! Bet he can't wait to get his hands on that car in about 3 years!! Esp. if it's got XM.

Yep Ray, he's turning the corner! But he is 13 so he can't admit he might have a change of heart even if the girls did ooh and ahh over it. So you have to give him an 'out'. But please, save your neighbors and limit the decibel level!

By all means DO IT!!! Then only blast classical or oldies or whatever else he hates. After all it is YOUR car. He would no longer have a leg to stand on in complaining about the car. Otherwise you will have to listen to his crap - be it music or complaints about the car.

    The insanity of modern times.

If I said I didn't like my parents' car, they'd have no problem with it. They'd just let me walk.

You should do the same. The last thing you should do is try to please the fickle tastes of a 13 year old. You'll just spoil him.

I agree -- sounds to me as if you've got someone with real, inate negotiating talent. Appears cool and indifferent -- and it's all part of leveraging.

If you can get him interested in the futures market, or commodities, the sky's the limit. :D

I love the looks of the Prius, but I have to admit that at the right angle, the grill on the Prius looks like the smile on Barney's face. Bad association. I would much rather have it look like Mr. Rogers.
One street mod item I think looks cool is the underbody flourescent lighting that makes the car look like it's floating. Don't know if it's legal or not and it probably requires hours of work to instal. Not considering it myself as my car is totally cool to the resident teenager.

Hahahaha I've seen the smile for quite some time now. that's why I think it looks so cute.. For my next art project, my concentration will be FACES and i'll use Prius' smile vs. H2's ugly braces =)

btw... Im not sure I'd do quite as harsh things as some people have said. Try not to do anything that will anger him and make him hate the Prius any more.

ACK!!!! Fortunately my kids are over Barney now.
Illegal in Vermont, but then so are mufflers louder than OEM and anything other than factory street pipes on a Harley. Unfortunately the police don't have time to enforce these law.

Dealer called Tues, has a Driftwood BC coming in. My preference was Seaside, but I decided to take it. I told my 11 year old. She refers to the 2004 Prius as the "squished face car" and originally hated it (even though she had never been in one). Decided she liked it when I rented 1 for a week. She wanted blue, silver or purple. Well we know that only 2 of those exist. Told her I was getting a brownish/goldish one. She threw a fit. "Everyone will say what an ugly color it is (she's never seen it), I won't ride in it." Fine I said, walk. I bet she changes her mind, if not her opinion, the first time she has to walk 5 miles to the ice rink carrying her skates. :)

Give the lad some wood, nails, a saw and a hammer, tell him to build a bridge and get the f### over it.

you do not ahve to spend any money moifying it to make your 13 year old stepson to like it. all you going to need is to make sure its clean, maybe wax it, and get his girlfriend to like it, once the girl likes it, then the 13 year old stepson will like it

this will take time until he gets his learners permit, though

Funny, I picked up my son and classmates from band practice. Later my son told me that his friends think my Prius is COOL. I would have never thought 12 year olds would think that.

Look at the dates on these posts. This thread started four years ago. The coolness factor of the Prius has improved a lot in four years.

Point out to him that it's really a computer on wheels--not too much of a stretch.
