broken windshield

    Hi everyone,

    This is my first post here but i've been visiting your very informative board for awhile now. I just bought a 07 prius mid-Oct. Unfortunately i hit a rock last week and it broke my windshield :( i havent even received my lic. plates yet. Anyways i ended up going through my insurance (State Farm) which then referred me to an auto glass company, and i got PPG glass with tint. So i was bummed out that i had to get a new windshield but i'm pretty happy with the new tinted glass...CHEERS

    Well we had two vehicles done (what luck huh), the other being an 04 Sienna and the total was $150 so i'm assuming it was $75 each

    $75 each? judging from your original post, i thought you had the whole windshield replaced. if so, how is it only $150? your deductible alone would have been at least $500 right? Am I missing something here?

    a lot of insurances have free glass (no deduct)
    mine does.

    My Prius isn't even a week old and a rock cracked the windshield :( My deductible is $500 (even for glass) so I"ll have to pay cash...

    Had a broken front winshield on an 05 Prius. A mobile glass repair replaced it for around $250. Seemed an OK price.

    Going to chime in here with a comment and a question.

    Since I moved to AZ in the fall of '04, I've gone through more windshields than I've ever gone through in CA in all of my cars. Fortunately State Farm offers free glass coverage.

    Now it seems I can't keep them undamaged for < 1 year. Replaced the original in July '06, then replaced again last month (April '07). Each time the glass was slightly different, with the current windshield having blue tint at the visor line in addition to the ceramic tint around the mirror. Keep in mind I've lived with the small impacts, but once the crack grows into a line 6+ inches, I get it replaced.

    Now 2 days ago, the windshield was struck by another fairly large stone and has left a dime sized impact/star crack about 4-6 inches above the wiper on the passenger side. I'll try to get this repaired before it grows.

    My question is - due to the aerodynamics of the car (i.e. it's not making huge differences in flow direction compared to other cars) and due to the size of the windshield, are our cars more prone to windshield impacts than other cars, or is it just my bad luck? I do drive 75 miles a day with 60 being freeway.

    The other thing is after this replacement, my mirror seems to vibrate excessively. Initially the screw was too loose and the mirror wiggled around as I adjusted it. I then tightened the screw to eliminate the play and it seems prone to road vibration. Is there supposed to be a rubber piece between the mirror and the mounting tab that perhaps the glass shop lost? I've backed off on the screw slightly with some improvement, but it's not as it was.
