Is cleaning the EGR necessary on a 2012 C?

    Hello Gang,
    I’ve read different opinions in regards to cleaning the EGR system on a 2012 Prius C.
    Some say it isn’t necessary with the C and it’s the older Prius models that have the issues.
    I’ve read here that some folks have cleaned theirs and it was spotless at 130,000 miles.
    Also..
    I’ve read that an OCC isn’t necessary as well with our C cars.

    Thoughts on this?

    I've read a bunch of posts on the same topic and I've never seen any reason to worry about it on any Prius with the 1.5L engine. That's Generation 1 & 2 of the big bodies plus all c models.

    The 1.8L engine introduced on the 3rd generation big-body (and Prius v) is the EGR clog problem child.

    Is it similar to 3rd gen Prius, has a EGR cooler/valve assembly on driver's side of engine, and a pipe between EGR valve and intake manifold? If so I'd try removing that pipe and checking it's inside.

    That said, I don't think there's been any reports of problems with Prius c EGR. Per @Leadfoot J. McCoalroller , topic has come up a few times, never any problems reported as far as I can recall.
