It's now May and I have yet to see a single 2023 Prius in the wild, despite all the media hype claiming a January 2023 release in the US. I live in an area chock full of hybrids and EVs, so this is especially puzzling.

A google search turns up nothing, other than something from an obscure Pakistani website which claims a March 2023 delayed release.

Anybody have any idea WTH is going with Toyota??? Their website pretends that the January 2023 release actually happened.

I wanted to buy one earlier this year but balked when all the local dealers demanded a $500 deposit just to be on a wait list with no guaranteed delivery date. Am now leaning towards a Camry or Accord hybrid...hope they don't have similar inventory issues!

I just picked up my GuardIan Gray 2023 Prius Prime XSE Premium yesterday. The fleet manager told me last week that there were only 65 2023 Prius Prime released in 48 states for the 1st batch. She said she won’t get anymore until mid or late June.

I had to drive home in hybrid mode since the car was delivered to the dealer yesterday morning and they had to prep the car and didn’t have time to charge the battery.

I charged it overnight and it says 100% charge but only showed 33 EV miles.

I am aware that with 17in wheels the EV was rated at 44 Miles and 19in wheels at 39 miles.

I guess my question is shouldn’t the battery show at least 44 EV miles when fully charged and will adjust according to the wheel size and how the car is driven?

Is it charged to the 80 percent capacity? ie do you have to tell it to charge to 100 for long trips? I also thought you could force charge it using the ICE engine like the Gen 4. Maybe not?(n)

I just let it charged overnight and the app alerted me that it was 100 charged and has 33 EV miles.

There is a switch to add EV miles but again it says 100% charged.

The range meter is like the distance to empty one for the gas tank. It gives a predicted range based on previous fuel consumption. The first charge is going to reflect how it has been driven since it left the factory.

The previous model didn't have an option for selecting charge level. With the buffer, I wouldn't worry about it.

Charging with the engine is fast DC charging. That will stop at 80%, as the last bit takes much longer.

I purchased my Limited about 2.5 weeks ago, and, today, I just saw a 2023 XLE parked on the street a few blocks away from me. It already had permanent license plates showing it was purchased in March.

What area are you? Usually helps to provide this context… no location in your profile.

I haven’t seen one on the road yet either in Canada (Toronto), though I figure I should any day now…

I’ve seen two of these this past week out on the streets, both in silver. One of them was riding on the larger wheels and looked great. The other one had those god awful ugly plastic wheels. Really brings down the overall look of the vehicle by a lot.

That is the guess-o-meter. It will vary according to your actual mi/kWh. If you are heavy-footed, it will be less than 39 miles, and if you are light-footed, it will be more. It will take several charges for the guess-o-meter to give good estimates.

Moreover, don't keep the car charged at 100% unless you are ready to drive. Use the charge scheduler to preserve the battery capacity.

I'm in a suburb of Boston, MA ... tons of pre-2023 Priuses here, as well as Teslas and other EVs.

Yikes, just a lousy 65 for the entire contiguous US??? That explains a lot.

I wonder why so few of this just this model...are other Toyota models also in such short supply? I can't imagine them having such shortages for the biggest sellers like the Camry, Corolla, Rav4, etc. Is there a global shortage of lithium car batteries?

Oh yes, every model is in short supply, and every manufacturer too.
Stop in at a dealer if you want to see a variety of used cars

Seriously? Surely not the non-hybrid models too? I thought the pandemic-fueled global semiconductor shortage had largely abated...

My wife and I just lucked out on this one the other day. Traded in our 22 limited with 16k miles and gave $2600 difference. We think we got a heck of a deal - we love it so far! 20230509_152637.jpg
