MFD point of touch is offset

    Saturday they replaced the hybrid battery. Sunday while setting the radio presets the MFD suddenly started accepting every touch on the left side of the screen as being on the right side. After about 10 minutes of the car being powered off it seemed to fix itself.

    A few hours ago I went into the screens to sync my phone and it happened again only it's not correcting itself this time. I just went out and powered the car on and the touch is still offset. Any touch on the left side of the screen activates the rightmost touchpoint on that line. I've made an appointment at Crown for 4 pm tomorrow but I'm wondering if anyone here has seen this before and is there something I should try that might fix it tonight?

    Well, it didn't work. I can get the diagnostic screen holding the info button while flipping the lights but the offset is so bad I can't get beyond that. The system requires using the touchscreen to access the calibration screens and it's so far off I can't get the correct button "depressed" to do it.

    I had the exact same issue on my 2006 Prius. Exactly the same. I tried using a business card and compressed air to clean the edge of the screen. No help. I replaced the 12 volt battery. No help.

    Took it to the dealer here in Escondido. They said it needed a new MFD, part cost $7,300 plus installation. You read that right, Around $7,500 installed.

    For that money I nosed around the Internet, found AutoBeYours.com in Scottsburg, Indiana. Check out Prius MFD Touchscreen Repair Short story to save $7,500 I was willing to rip my dash apart, pull out the MFD and send it to them. They have photos on their website to help show how to take the dash apart. There are also some videos on YouTube. Your result may differ, but I found the job not so difficult. Two screws and elbow grease to pull some fascia off. Biggest problem is the nerve to tackle the job, worry about breaking something, and questioning my sanity, while cursing Toyota.

    Got the MFD out and shipped off, came back in a week. Installed, and works and looks good as new. Comes with 12 month warranty. Total cost $325, including return 2 day USPS priority shipping with tracking number. Add your cost to ship to them, but last I checked $350 is way less than $7,500. In fact, not considering the warranty, you can do this 20 times and still be ahead. Once I got up the nerve this was a no brainer.

    I just realized that I never finished my story. Crown Toyota never even suggested putting in a new unit. Their first suggestion was a refurbished unit that they installed and put a one year, unlimited mileage warranty on for $1k. It's working very well. It was expensive (not as expensive as new, for sure) but with other things going on I just wasn't up to tearing it apart myself. I'm not much of a DIY guy anyway.

    Those YouTube videos do make it look pretty easy. I think if this screen goes out after warranty I'll probably wind up doing what you did and pay my son or one of his friends up in California City do the tear-down and install.

    I have a similar issue with our Prius C Two screen, only the touch areas are offset just *below* the image of each button. Buttons at the bottom can just barely be depressed using your fingernail.

    I can't imagine that this can't be solved with a settings or software solution. I will have to try the calibration that was suggested above.
