    Hello all,

Just thought I'd share a very fortunate junkyard find from yesterday.

I had an alert come up stating a 2012 Prius Four arrived at a nearby yard last week. I was not able to make it right away, but went yesterday and sadly the car was pretty much gutted already. I was honestly just looking for random parts I could possibly "upgrade" in my 2015 Three.

As I was looking around the outside of the car, I saw an EGR cooler just lying there. I grabbed it and inspected it, and besides it being totally clogged from carbon, it was in perfect shape. So I inquired how much it cost and they had no idea and just sold it for $7! $7 for a spare EGR cooler is a huge score in my book, so I plan to clean it up and have it ready for my next EGR cleaning rounds.

So with the $3 entrance fee, I paid a total of $10 for the cooler and I thought that was a huge find. It definitely could pay off for keeping an eye out for our cars popping up at junkyards!

Yeah, that's the nice thing about hybrid cars... Junk yards don't have standard pricing for many of the parts... I suspect it will be similar at wrecking yards with electric cars in another 1/2 dozen years of so.

That's a great find! I got my spare EGR cooler and EGR valve off eBay for about $130 with shipping.

Did the cooler have an EGR valve attached as well?

So it actually had one attached but I removed it. It looked beat up and I have a brand new OEM one that I got from a dealer about a month or so ago, so I plan to use that when I do the EGR stuff again. In hindsight, maybe I should have kept the one that was attached, but then who knows if they would have seen it and tried to charge more? In any case, I'm quite happy with my find!

I believe aftermarket (Dorman) is around $200 and one from the dealer is at least $300 or more.

The cheapest new cooler you can get (for your beer) is at the dollar store... But it cost way more than a dollar these days!
