I recently cleaned my battery cooling fan, after getting everything back together this light came on and stayed on, thought it was tire pressure light but it’s different? Can’t find much online.

light is an exclamation inside of brackets as shown in title

While working on the car I disconnected the 12 volt as well as the orange connector. Cars been running just fine despite the light.

    thanks in advance

Are all the connections on the 12 volt battery solid there's a little skinny white wire that goes to a plug that's not directly where the band is that goes on the lead plug that sticks up out of the battery It's behind that on the rack that's covered with the red cover when you cover the terminal assembly that white wire needs to be connected to that one single terminal like it always has been did you break that loose by chance while you were working sometimes bending it and moving the plug a few times was all it takes?

If the brackets look like they could be little brake shoes inside a drum, that's the Electronically Controlled Braking warning (ECB).

If they have a little wavy line between their bottoms that could be a tread, that's the Tire Pressure Monitoring System warning (TPMS).

Either way, you can make it blink to tell you why it is on:

Oh did you spin the fan around when you cleaned it? A Toyota mechanic once told me to never let an electric fan spin when you are doing anything with it...it will break it. (I asked him if it was okay to spray some compressed air in my HV battery cooling fan to clean it...NO! But if you remove it and can hold the fan still while spraying air, that's okay!)
If nothing else works, I'd buy a new fan...probably be $130-200 for your 2006

Wow that is hysterical I've never heard such I have a white battery cooling fan from a Gen 3 sitting on my porch right now that has been sprayed with cleaner and then with water and then blown out with air and it's plugged up to 12 volts running wide open matter of fact all my battery cooling fans have been cleaned this way only been three the other two were so clean. I didn't bother cleaning them so I guess I've been lucky both those times same with alternator sometimes I'm at the junkyard and they're full of mud and funk and weirdness I spray them out with super clean blast them out with water blast them out with air spray some electrical contact cleaner through the system blow it out with air sit it on a shelf and the sunlight for about 30 minutes then it goes in the shop on the shelf ready for service when I need it far as I know none of these things have come off my shop shelf and gone on a vehicle and not worked so far and that's been a long long many years now.

Sometimes if you are cleaning a fan with compressed air, you can get it spinning at such high rpm that some damage might be done. I've heard of it as a possibility, but never from anybody it's really happened to.

I think I've pretty much never held an electric motor of any kind in my hands without spinning it. I mean, who can resist?

Thank you for the quick reply! That actually could be what happened, I’ll check tomorrow and report back

I did clean with compressed air but needed to use alcohol and Q-Tips due to caked on dust. I held it so it wouldn’t spin but it didn’t seem to spin freely? Not like how a household fan would anyway. Felt kind of stiff idk if it’s supposed to feel that way. I’ve also never heard it turn on but this is also my first Prius.

Any way to test the fan?

I did use compressed air but it was just an air duster, fan didn’t spin up since I held it. But the fan also felt kind of stiff? It didn’t spin like a normal household fan that is. Could that be a problem with it? I haven’t had the car long and it’s my first Prius, can’t say I’ve heard the cooling fan turn on and I’m not sure how to test it.

That’s what I thought too, do you happen to know if it’s safe to drive with that on? I’ve driven for a week or two and brakes seem good as ever. And thanks for the link too, I’ll give it a read! I’m almost due for an oil change so I may mention it when I go in.

As soon as you've given the link a read, you will know how to retrieve the trouble code(s) telling you why the light is on. And finding out why the light is on is the way you find out what kind of problem the car has, and finding that out is the way to judge whether the car is safe to drive with that on.

So giving that link a read is on, as a project manager might say, the critical path.

Read the linked page and flashed the codes, forgive me for being new at this but I can’t tell what’s going on. The ECB light I mentioned flashes slowly 4 times and stops. The ABS and VSC flash in unison alternating with the Tire pressure light and don’t seem to stop. Traction control light stays solid as well as the hybrid system warning triangle and check engine light. The air bag light also flashes.

not sure how to interpret the codes, but I’ve also never done this procedure before.

It's a bit of sensory overload with all the lights blinking at once.

Just focus on a single light at a time, and count the blinks out into two-digit codes the way that page you read says to.

Each light will keep blinking out the same codes in the same order, so as soon as you see the first code you wrote down come around again, you know you have all the codes from that light, and you move on to the next light.

Once you have the codes, you can post them here. (The way to interpret them is to look them up in the manual, which that page also explains how to do, but some of the codes may already be familiar to us.)

I thought that was the ABS. I have that too. I need to learn more about that. That white wire is part of that? Very delicate looking.

I've heard this business of not spinning the fan. It's about the bearings. Shop air can over-spin them and ruin them. They're rated for much slower rpm. Makes sense. Is it true? Could be but not confirmed.
