When I've personally known 3 people ran over by big SUV's in just the past year (and serveral more over the years) I can't believe it to be only drama. ABC also did a report where they showed road safety (rate of people dying per million miles driven) has actually gotten worse in recent years and the reason is quite obvious: bigger heavier vehicles.

Is this the report you are referring to (Over 46,000 people died on US roads in 2021, report finds amid traffic increase - ABC News (go.com))? It is a year old.
If not, can you give me anything more to go on?

Old VWs with magnesium engine blocks needed a back hoe to dig a hole when they caught fire.

The hazardous part of a car fire is from all the plastics, and those can be lit up shorts in the 12V system.
Did they at least ban that stupid trend of just putting a big lift on the front, so the the driver can enjoy the clouds?

covid has played apart in increased accidents. drivers mental health has crumbled, a lot of road rage and speeding.
would i rather get hit by a gasser? i'd rather not get hit at all

Good news is that more & more cars have collision avoidance systems. Those include collisions with pedestrians. Undoubtedly they will become mandatory very soon. That will put a big dent in the CBS network drama over ev's vs pedestrians &/or ev's vs other vehicles ..... when in fact the real issue is clueless unaware not paying attention pedestrians & all cars
    vs all cars.

BEVs are heavier. Does it make that much of a difference between BEVs and ICEVs? I don't know. Weight affects not only the inertial mass, but also the handling. Some small cars may have a good track record for safety, not because they're built well for safety in comparison to an SUV, but because it's much easier to avoid an accident in them.

For some reason I can't find it right now. It was a YouTube video.

    chevy bolt = 3,600 lbs

    honda cr-v = 3,400 lbs

    honda cr-v hybrid = 3,650

it isn't likely to make a difference in an accident

That vehicles aren't massless? Or that EV's generally weigh more?

Sure, but don't compare modern EVs by that yardstick. Compare them to other modern cars.
More modern Beetles ran around 3,000 pounds.
BTW, my Mini Cooper SE weighs 3,143 pounds ;)

that the concern should be vehicle weight, not ev's

that the concern should be vehicle noise (or lack thereof) not ev's

True, but I was referring to a fun car to drive for me. Modern cars are too lardy to be fun to drive. They don't let you feel the road, hear the road, and they're all about aim and hope they're heavy enough to save you. I sometimes get excited about modern cars, but then I realize I drive an obese sedan and that's all that's offered anymore, large, obese, heavy lard buckets of vehicles.

    Good point!

LOL, you haven't driven a MINI have you?
Very subjective, but I never 'felt' the road as well, and enjoyed driving as much as I did when driving my Model 3.
The delay between stepping on the 'gas' and the car lumbering forward is just too much, and too slow to have fun.
