Just thought I'd share this with the community, in case you have not seen it yet or were just curious. It's regarding a CT200 with a blown head gasket but can pertain to our engines as well. I do take things with a grain of salt but always open to ideas and theories that have some logical explanations.

Is that updated head gasket he uses (21:46) the one you would get if you ordered the head gasket from a Toyota dealer? That's the first time I've seen one like that (looks totally flat). Has anyone here ever used that type?

I truly have no idea.... that would be my guess? I could investigate some if I really wanted to haha But I agree, first time seeing one look like that.

So just did a very quick Googling of the most current part number for that gasket shown. It is 11115-37061. Here's an eBay listing of it (if it's genuine): https://www.ebay.com/itm/265165117954?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=faG-YZ6BRKS&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=RSCIbulYTGG&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

If the Car Care Nut video is to be believed, it seems some later 14's and all 15's have this revised gasket, as well as the updated pistons/rings? Obviously I don't plan to tear my engine apart to confirm this, but if he's right, I'm definitely happy about that (I have a 2015).

Yeah it's hard to tell from that picture, but I guess they are updated from the crappy black coated ones. In other pictures they don't seem flat though, maybe that's just an illusion. I was aware of the piston ring revision in 2015, but I forgot there was a head gasket change.

I'd be tempted to go Fel-Pro, but sounds like the gasket/seal kit is incomplete and it's some random timing/valve cover seals. I wouldn't feel too bad reusing them, but if the OEM is a quality head gasket then I'd go that route personally.

The most important lesson learned from the Car Care Nut's video is that the longevity of the head gasket has to do with frequent oil and ICE coolant changes,

Basically, the 10 year 100k miles coolant and 10k miles Toyota specified service intervals are too long. Old acidic coolant eventually deteriorates the head gasket "rubber," and sludge in the oil promotes clogging of the EGR and oil in the intake.

Yep, he's ran his own Lexus/Toyota/Scion shop in Chicago for a year, now and said too many owners wait until their car is 10-years old to start worrying about maintenance and, by that time, it's usually too late...the engine is too far gone to save without some major work.

As my grandpa used to say, "The proof is in the pudding" Toyota engines are designed well BUT neglecting them will bite you in the butt if you want to keep it for the long-term (> 10-years, > 100,000 miles). "Lifetime fluid" is a huge lie made up by marketing folks, NOT mechanics/engineers.

But as of the last few years now all of our head gaskets are pretty much metal three metal shims riveted together etc etc I've got like 10 hanging here for all different vehicles that I've owned some I still own etc very few of these gaskets today are made like the blue PT head gaskets of a few years ago now almost everything I pick up order or get a hold of our metal they're like the old shims we used to put on top of the regular head gasket to make up for the timing chain slack from shaving the head and all the other work that's going on. Like I'm working on a little Suzuki right now 2.3 l and it's complete head gasket is three pieces of metal like I just described no matter where I get it from The The cheapest junk to the most expensive head gaskets for this model all look the same I have four of them sitting here just because from no name brand all the way up to felpro Victor Dana whatever they all look exactly the same it's uncanny.

"Lifetime" fluid is the lifetime of the Emissions warranty...
    After that the own pays.
Nothing will last if you don't take care of it.

I started looking into the Fel-Pro route, since the Toyota info seemed easy to find until I saw the same video when it came out. Was wondering the same about what is the part number for that gasket and ideally that new gasket with complete kit.
Still assessing the options, though just posted somewhere on here a list.

Get the FULL Toyota head gasket kit, with the head bolts, and there black permatex stuff.
The FULL kit has the "O" rings for the oil filter housing, the water pump gasket, and the
thermostadt housing gasket, and the crank shaft seal. It will save you a LOT of time!

Do you have the part number available by chance for the Toyota Full Headgasket Kit?

Maybe is the Engine Cylinder Head Gasket Set - Toyota (04112-37254)?

I just called two Dealership Parts Departments and they've not seen the new all metal surface gasket shown in The Car Car Nut video. I commented on the video as well to see if anyone knows. Anyways, from what the one part department clerk could see, the newest head gasket part is the Engine Cylinder Head Gasket - Toyota (11115-37062) and is the black surface design.

Interestingly, I was searching Google and this site shows used for the 2.0L as well.

I do not have the number. I didn't get the full kit..... I was stupid.....
Go to the dealership, they will bring it up. It will show two different ones.
Just get the one that has the oil filter housing, water pump gaskets.

By black surface design you mean like the OE (the old one) from the video? That figures, LOL.

I guess you could ask to see the gasket from the (04112-37254) kit, although I'm under the assumption it's the same one.

I would agree that that's the way to go, but I think the concern is getting the old crappy style head gasket. What style did you get?

I see, maybe I'm misunderstanding James, or the dealer is. What's confusing me is that the new gasket in the video doesn't just look like a fully coated version of the old style one. The new one in the video looks completely smooth and it looks grey.

It might of been grey. I honestly don't remember. It was all one color.
Instead of just having the black/grey "highlights". So it was/is the upgraded head gasket.
Forget the video, go to Toyota and SEE for yourself. Ask them for the upgraded one.
If they don't have it, go to a different dealer. Or phone them and have them send it to you.
