My driver door has a wind whistle at highway speeds and it’s driving me insane lol.

car was rebuilt and has accident history, don’t know how bad it was but the car looks perfect, drives straight, and you would never be able to tell otherwise. I don’t know if it has anything to do with it but I figure I’d mention it.

I meticulously inspected the door and window seals and both are perfect aside from a tear at the bottom of the door sea where someone’s shoe caught it. I patched it with some duct tape. Whistle is coming from the top near my left ear so I don’t think that’s the cause.

I tried the method of rolling down the window and trying to bend the top of the frame, made the door fit more flush but didn’t help the whistle, might have gotten worse actually.

also no leaks, just the noise. Any help is appreciated. After scouring YouTube I may buy some marine and rv stick on rubber seal
To go around the factory seal.

Remove the triangle part where the mirror attaches. I bet you will see that the seal looks like a flat gasket. It started life as a ~3mm foam seal. Replace that with some new seal material. You can probably just use some home window seal that you can get from Home Depot or Lowes. Just cut it carefully so you have no gaps or overlaps and you should be all set.

my whistler, i thought had no leaks either, but it had been leaking very small leaks for years, just really slowly. smelled of mold randomly and i could never figure it out until the leak got worse and underneath the floormats was damp.

Yes, the three nuts behind the tweeter (called the Front Door Lower Bracket Garnish LH/RH in the diagram below), if that's what you mean by underneath:

I can't remember if you need to do anything with the door trim. I seem to remember you don't need to remove it, but maybe just loosen it at around the corner by the mirror, if anything.

How do the outside edges of the door look compared to the door on the other side. When i read your title I thought its been hit. The door probably has been replaced.

Your issue may be the door is not fully closed or is slightly cocked. It is not easy at all to align a door. How does the door depth to the body match the other door when its closed.

Here's a search forums result of "door whistling". One mentions dolj post.:

And list where in the US you live please.

Ah ok so just put some of that flat foam window seal tape in a triangle just under the mirror then?

I think you’re onto something because upon listening closer I do think that’s where it’s coming from. Lucky for me I have to pull the door panel anyway to replace the door check and fix the armrest.

Where did you put the foam? Behind the mirror like dolj mentioned? Also what sort of foam did you use?

I assume the door was replaced as well but it seems to fit perfectly from all angles. Only difference could be the gap between the driver and rear passenger doors is maybe a millimeter bigger. Could be a cause though.

I’ll definitely check out that post as well, also sorry I’m in Oregon.

Yes, remove the old foam and replace it with new foam. When you remove the three nuts that attach the outer rearview mirror assembly, the old squashed foam that needs to be replaced should be quite obvious.

If you want to narrow down where an external wind noise is coming from, start applying blue painters tape to outside seams then go for a road test to see if the sound changes. (You'll have to climb over the center console to get into the driver's seat - oh well).
