I'm thinking about getting rid of my 2005 Prius with around 184,000 miles. But, I was wondering if anyone knew if I would be able to get more money out of it by scrapping it/taking it apart and selling its parts or by doing a trade in value somewhere/selling it to CarMax? For reference, the estimated online offer for my car from CarMax is $1,200.
Thanks for any advice anyone can provide!

post it on facebook marketplace, use kbb.com for the price. If you want to get rid of it fast.. sell it at a very cheap price, your phone will have tons of messages in no time.
don't trade it in carmax, dealership or buy/pay here shops, you lose a lot of money from doing that.

Other than the year and the mileage you provide no information whatsoever about the condition of the car? Not even a picture? How are we supposed to offer advice when there's almost nothing to go on?

Well I live in Ohio and I park outside so whenever summer hits I usually have problems with the hybrid battery. But after running some tests with the Dr. Prius app and replacing a module or 2 it usually runs fine until summer hits again the following year. Through college I was fine with dealing with that but now that I have a job I feel like it may be time to get rid of it and get something where I don’t have to deal with that each year. But since that is a yearly problem I don’t really want to just list it on Facebook for cheap and have someone who is desperate buy it with their hopes up of it not being a problem for them.

I just had new front breaks put on a couple months ago, it gets regular oil changes, and had new tires put on last year. It is a 2005 so by no means is it in perfect condition but I would say it’s still in pretty good shape.

you could always disclose the issue on why it's cheap to make you feel that you're not ripping people off. Anybody on marketplace knows the risk involved with cheap items. Just don't say it needs a "tune-up" when in fact it needs a head gasket or a new engine, worst people say "lost title" which is a complete lie because you can always file a duplicate title if you own the car! it's either stolen or they bought it with a mess up title and can't register it legally.

I'd say $1200 for a Prius by Carmax is a total loss for you.. you can even sell it for more than $2k and people will line up to get that.

There’s really only two minor cosmetic issues. The hole in the driver’s floor mat seen in the pictures above and this here on the passenger side front bumper/fender. I took it to a local auto shop to get the headlight replaced and they somehow managed to break off the part of the fender that clips in to the bumper at this one spot so it appears slightly indented there but structurally it’s still held on well and isn’t loose at all.
