Gen 2, 2004, 260K miles. I did a full successful battery rebuild last summer, and the Dr Prius app declared the battery to have MORE than 100% remaining life! Made all the difference. There is a hidden secret to doing a HV battery recondition-- see my prior post. Gen 2 P0420 P0446 C1259 C1310 HV charging problem? | PriusChat

I'm now suspecting the HV battery ECM, the one located inside the battery box itself. After all, it has 260K miles on it.

So I'm getting red triangles, but no corresponding DTCs. I can clear the code and drive on for a while.

Occasionally, the MFD shows 1 or 2 purple bars, and the HV battery does not want to charge up.

I sometimes had to pull off the road, power off, and restart the car to get things back to normal. The red triangle would show, then the engine would race (no engine braking due to no charging) and I would pull off the road, and reboot.

Again, no DTC codes. Now this is using my portable Innova 3100 code reader. I will get the Techstream computer out when I can find the OBD2 plug-in device....

Does anyone know for sure where to start if "force charging" (brake and accelerator together) does NOT work? As always, I am continually impressed with the high level of wisdom found here.... Help, help!

Bad hv battery and your code reader is not picking it up. Where is Dr Prius when you need it?

Get Techstream working and connect it to the car and read all of the trouble codes.

Regarding techstream, i purchased this cable from Amazon recently and it works perfect.

Aidixun Mini-VCI J2534 Cable Firmware 1.4.1 for Toyota Techstream, Toyota Tis Cable,Techstream Software (Newest Version) https://a.co/d/9b0BCC2

It was a little more expensive than other options but had same day delivery in my area.

Even can properly scan my cars without acc or ignition on. I read some cables do not communicate properly without acc or ignition on. I was dealing with a no start condition that ended up being corrosion on ia3 connector.

I did not want to deal with trying to install techstream to windows 10 64bit and dealing with driver bs

Soo i found this handy guide. Techstream in 5 minutes. Emulates windows xp. Drivers and software already pre installed! Serial number inserted but also included if you get asked. It's techstream 12 iirc, 10 is also on the virtual image if you wanted to install it.

    Hope this helps! Good luck.

Real TIS or TIS II on my dealer CF-13 portable well not read any Toyota's that I have here on my property from old to new without the car being at least in the ignition mode something has to be on on the dash I'm almost positive No it will say lost communication with the car if I turn it off while text stream is plugged up it will zero out in the middle of everything. So I don't know how this has come to be but I might want to be finding out? Does it say in the instructions with your cable that it's going to be able to read the car without the car being on or something like that in the text? Very interesting I will check out that cable I have the mongoose.

If there's a "master warning light", then there are codes somewhere. Many of those codes result in limited or "abnormal" hybrid system function.

Step one is to get any codes. Find your TS setup if you can. Otherwise here's a review of some other scantool app and device options.

It wasn't stated in description but i read on here that techstream can communicate with 5 modules on the prius even in an off state. Also that an autel can do the same. In fact the poster above, mr guy man, is who helped me out!

I confirmed the handheld autel scanner as my dad has one and i tested it dealing with my no acc no ig issue.

I also tested the amazon cable above on my 2010 camry and prius. It works even with vehicle completely off.

On the prius with that amazon cable it can connect to body controller, gateway, smart key ecu, immobilizer, and power source control.

The ecus don't have full functionality without acc or ignition. It just allows you to pull codes and confirms communication. If i recall you can't like.. force the body ecu to power things like the windows.

Thank again for the illustrious wisdom.

My wife says, "Go physically to the last place you KNEW you had it, and just be open to intuitive guidance, and you'll more than likely find it!" so, with this method, I found the OBD2 cable.

    Here are the codes:

    IG ON. P0A80

    Big help, huh?

But THEN! Ta-ta! the dreaded (why is it dreaded?) RED TRIANGLE and a host of other yellow lights came on, and
    now it reads:
    (Again, IG ON)

    P3000
    P0A80
    C1310

Not too much help, but I do have the manual pages, and can begin to run those procedures....

That first code may mean the problem is contained in the HV contained to the HV Battery case, so my impulse to go after that component might be right....

    Comments, please....

    Again, many many thanks....

C1310 is the ABS saying, "the Hybrid Control ecu has codes". P3000 is the HC ecu saying "the High Voltage battery ecu has codes". P0A80 is the HVB ecu saying it doesn't like the differences between some of the battery block voltages (all should stay within around 0.3V of each other)

There's many many posts about P0A80. Use the search function. If you have Techstream, look for a snowflake icon (freezeframe) next to that code or the P3000. Read any data there- specifically look at block voltages for the HV battery.

The most common failure is for a battery module to have a shorted cell which shows as that block having 1.0 to 1.5 V less than other blocks when the battery is discharging (on accel).

If so then it's time to look at battery pack replacement options. (There's also a bunch of posts about DIY repair - "single" module replacement & pack "refurbishing" You take your chances as some things can work- or not- but getting a new set of modules from Toyota is the most reliable way)

So my Dr Prius app will read the voltages, but I got the bluetooth ODB2 device from Panlong, and at first it did not work, and they very promptly sent me a replacement. But then, after a month, that one also would not work.

Can someone recommend a bluetooth OBD2 reader that I can use with my Android-installed DrPriusApp???

The best of both worlds - iOS and Android

This affordable adapter that support both Android and iOS (BLE 4)

I found this "TONWON" adapter from Amazon, I also found it was being renamed to "OBDII Pro" or "VGate" on AliExpress, and as a matter of fact I don't actually know which one is the original...
It is one of the best adapters I've tested so far, it connect to both my Android and iOS beautifully. Note: Pick the one with "BLE 4.0 With iOS and Android", NOT the 3.0 or WiFi
Amazon US: TONWON OBD2 Bluetooth 4.0 for iOS and Android
AliExpress (pick Bluetooth 4.0): vGate OBD2 Bluetooth 4.0 for iOS and Android

WARNING !! NOT ALL vGate are created equally, there are older version vGate(Bluetooth 3.0) or fake vGate flooded the market, please pick the one that looks exactly like the one in below picture, the side has clear writing "Bluetooth LE 4.0 E50".

I use the BAFX products bluetooth adapter for basic apps like Dr Prius. Less than $20 at amazon - no problems.
