Anyone thought of testing battery health by using EV mode?

Sounds like a good test of the battery health.

I assume a brand new fresh battery will do, let's say X miles in Y speed.

    One can extrapolate from there.

Anyone ever done such a thing?

    :)

People have worked on that over the years. Seems that the more favored test uses the air conditioner as the test load. Force change the battery full, crank the AC to max, and run a stopwatch to see how long it takes to deplete.

I wasn't around when priuschatters worked this out, so I can't tell you why it became the favorite method.

You're not going to do very much on a Gen 3 in EV mode I mean it what a mile an hour maybe two now the engine will be trying to come on and 60 seconds or less there's some kind of nonsense like that there's no AH to support any of that. I think Mama's played with it in the driveway but you know unless you're going from food Lion to CVS or something pretty much forget it The Prius was a low power alternative that does everything well that quote is from advertising about Prius

I don’t recall this experiment being done, but you’d have to start with a new battery and a controlled environment that you could repeat as desired

Just use the battery tests in the Dr. Prius app. To use the tests in the app, you will need to pay a one-time fee of about $12.

    That's actually very interesting.

I was recently driving a 2011 CT200h with an original battery, and I was waiting in the car wash. AC on. 19C.

After about, I guess 4 or 5 minutes (i can't recall), I got a yellow warning that the battery came on saying something like - the battery is drained or going empty or something of that sort.

yeah, car washes where you have to put the car in neutral and prius don't mix well. if you must use one, make sure the battery is close top full before pulling in, and use as little a/c as possible.
    it doesn't charge in neutral

it used to be a uge problem around here, but most people have finally caught on or learned the hard way. (some had to be towed from the car wash to the dealer for recharge, while others had to buy a new battery)
toyota may have added a warning since the early days, idk.

The user manual covered leaving gear on neutral.

Don't leave it in neutral. Leave it in "D". If they don't like it, tough.
You can hold the brake pedal so it moves slow....

    Or wash it yourself.

there's a place I know that does hand washes. It's more expensive but it's ok.

Glad you guys told me about this!!!

    Thank you!

Not clear what the point is.
Someone tested his battery capacity by driving up a hill in reverse as far as it would go.
