    Hello! Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I was at a stoplight and as I pushed the gas it felt like my breaks were sticking, the abs light came on and the big red triangle with the exclamation point came on plus the engine was revving up. It finally felt like the breaks released and I was on my way again. The next stop light same issue only this time car did not want to go. The engine wanted to go but the car didn’t. Got it towed to a mechanic and he said the transaxle needs to be replaced for about $3000.
The car is 2009, 2nd gen, original battery and 344,000 miles. The mechanic says to let her go. I’m in denial. Lol

opinions? I don’t want another car payment but i don’t know if it’s worth it to sink $3000 into her not knowing when the battery will fail.
At a crossroads. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I am from hopkinsville Kentucky I don't currently live there I'm in North Carolina. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in a minute You should be able to buy a transmission in Kentucky from a salvage yard for about 250 bucks tops That's them taking it out blah blah blah You want to get a '09 model It's the last of the generation 2 any mechanic in Kentucky that works on any front wheel drive cars changing out clutches transmissions drive axles and the light should charge you about 200 to 250 to do the swap take your old one out put the one you provide in that sounds like about $6,700 to me tops $3,000 I would stop fooling with that guy there's nothing he's going to do He doesn't have to go into the transmission no servicing nothing just going to change it out If you're rear main seals not leaking and all that which it probably isn't leave it alone If it is it's 6 bolts and a $24 seal or similar to replace If it's not leaking don't touch it and you tell me where you are in Kentucky I might be able to call a couple junkyards and square you one right up they should be plentiful where you are well depends on what part of Kentucky I'm chilton county. But before I did any of that I would get somebody with a good enough scanner to read especially for ABS codes something like an Innova 3250 as a red button that says ABS on it My Innova scanner will read my Prius ABS codes and all of the regular p codes without issue The car feeling like the brakes are sticking seems more like you may be having a failed break accumulator pump assembly The thing that goes bad in the brakes in this car I would like to hope not as this will cost more than the transmission job unless you can find a low mileage takeout part in Kentucky to get which should be very possible You will have to scour yards like LKQ and copart. Places like that where you can look at stock on the internet you'd be shocked at how many $95,000 mi generation 2 Prius are in the junkyard with just the damaged rear bumper It's shocking
