I have a 2008 Prius and my inverter coolant pump failed so I replaced it, and in the process this little piece came off somewhere and I found it under the car after buttoning everything up. I gave it a good look, and I have no idea what this is or where it goes back on. It is a 180 degree rubber elbow about 1/2 inch diameter and has a small orange spongey filter inside the curve of the rubber cap. Can anyone please help me figure this out especially if this is important?

It certainly looks like a little breather filter for something, and I've certainly never seen it and have no idea what.

After working on something there’s always an extra “no big deal” piece lying around. I just want to make sure mine isn’t the “Oh snap, that little thing just cost me $700 in damage” piece.

    Anybody else have a clue?

What car was parked before you in that spot? Looks like a Spark plug cover/arrestor for a gas powered small engine. Weed eater? If in garage look up at tools hung on the wall for missing parts.

I think that's the inverter coolant bleeder nipple cover.

    Pixel 7 Pro ?

The only way I've ever seen those covers look is just like the smaller ones on the brake bleeders.

That looks like a "vent hose" or "breather" from the headlight assembly. It likely got knocked off when you were doing your work. Look on the back of the headlight assembly and you'll see a bare plastic nipple somewhere.

The headlight has very broad range of temperature as the bulbs heat up and cool down . There has to be a vent to equalize pressure with the outside as the air inside expands and contracts. The vent hose allows this while preventing water from getting drawn in.

Could not find a picture of an OEM headlight, but go to amazon.com and enter B0743YPKZQ (because a direct link doesn't work from this site). Click on the link, then look at the 4th picture down for "heat vent" and it shows where it comes out on that aftermarket headlight. Most likely the OEM headlight has one in the same place.
