Toyota oem Prius v traction battery vs Green tc with new cells

    Our 2013 prius v is worrying us, as the traction battery goes down to the blue bars all the time and it's over ten years old and we just want to get a new battery with new Cells.

    The dealer quoted about 2600.00 when ask one but at that time we weren't as worried about it.
    The Green Tec battery with new cells is about 2600.00.

    Does the Toyota dealership battery have all new cells?

    How many miles on it? The traction battery charge state will cycle, depending on current draw and duty cycle. Has the charge cycling become extreme? Has your MPG dropped due to ICE runs to charge the traction battery? Is it extremely hot causing A/C use?

    The dealer is only new cells. Others often have used sold as refurbished, reconditioned, repainted (Dorman) or just plain useless (eBay and salvage). However there are lower cost Toyota cells and some independents (if you revealed your secret location) that sell and install for less. Some with mobile services in Texas.

    Alternative new cells are diy and one has low lifespan. The lithium version diy has poor availability and has a recent redesign to cover issues never previously disclosed.

    It runs down to the blue bars just going through a mcdonalds. And it sometimes takes driving 15-20 miles before it starts charging up to one green bar.

    Green Tec, lists one of the cities the support. I could replace it myself, just worried about what it there is a problem when I go to start it..!!

    Suggests the Inverter Motor Generator is not operating properly.

    Running down quickly is the classic weak hv battery symptom. The mg will kick on but it is not the issue.

    There are no “new generation high performance NiMH” that are better than Toyota’s. Most aftermarket NIMH cells are Chinese and usually cylinders instead of rectangular. Those cells have not lasted nearly as long.

    You can be sure Toyota cells will last eight to ten years, just like your originals have lasted ten so far. Four years maybe versus eight to ten?

    For the same money buy Toyota. Shop.

    The slow charge recovery rate is IMG related.

    i would get the oem battery, tried and true, but you may be premature. have mpg's declined at all?

    how many miles on her? might not be worth the investment

    is it hot where you are?
