Back in my car stereo installer days we used a test light to poke the terminals or the wires to find a 12v signal... I doubt a dashcam would draw very many amps, but if in doubt you could wire up a light bulb that draws more amps than the dashcam to confirm.

Also is this is a rearview mirror mounted daschcam? If so, which one did you buy? I've always wanted to buy one but get overwhelmed trying to figure out best quality/design for price?

it should work but i just don't know what the voltage is for the rear mirror. if it's 5v then i don't even need a converter for the USB split

Maybe buy a multimeter? They're not that expensive and can be useful in many occasions.

I installed a FITCAMX (w/ rear camera) in our 2018 Prime. Worked out pretty well. Includes wiring adapter to hook into wiring loom near the car’s front camera. The only significant issue I’ve had is the card has to be reformatted every few days to avoid filling it up full, otherwise the files become corrupted - this is the case even with a better card than fitcam supplied, so I presume there is a firmware issue.

to close the thread so others can find info. I ended up using the mirror power as tap. in the picture, there's a plug with 3 wires, green brown/black and brown on top. the green and brown/black are next to each other. the green the 12V load and only has power when car is on. I used that to split into a cig lighter to DIY a USB-A port. with that port, I was able to connect camera.

it's a easy install since you don't have to remove dome light. The rear view mirror panel easily pulls off exposing the wires. the hardest part was testing all the ports to find a 12v that's only on when car is on.

also to add, i used rear view mirror as that's the least destructive it seems. i didn't want to use the power to the range sensor and rear view mirror power seems fairly low risk to have some power sucked out
