Is this an OEM HV hybrid battery?

    New-to-me 2007 Prius.
    90k miles.
    On its 2nd refurbished battery within one year.
    Red triangle of death and P0AA6.
    Want to buy an OEM battery from a Toyota dealer for $1800 and install myself, so I don't have to deal with this refurbished crap.

    Is my current battery OEM so that I can get the refund on the $1300 core charge? I don't think the OEM housing is green but it has a Toyota sticker and stamping, plus it looks like they painted around the sticker, maybe for branding. Assuming sticker is correct, part number is G9280-47100. Much thanks!!!

    You go to any hybrid battery shop buy a silver top cover . Mine was green bean. I swapped the mess out. And my return was accepted overnight ordered battery online wound up being a total of 1463 I think.

    ask the dealer before pulling the trigger. maybe someone painted it, but it'd s swap out, so it's more important what's inside

    Any silver cover will do, not Toyota? Wouldn't they look at the innards?

    Good price. Although you ordered the new battery online, I assume it was local to you? Just looking for better deals.

    Just don't let the dealer see that green painted cover that will reject your warranty immediately You can ask them from afar all you want but when you take that battery in there it had needs to have a silver top not painted bare metal with the Toyota stickers in place they don't care about the Toyota sticker scanning it or anything it just needs to be an original cased assembly. It doesn't matter if it's been worked on or any of that It just needs to be looking like what went in the car at assembly and they will look.

    No at the time I was looking for the factory original battery no rebuilt funny business I needed the car on the road everyday all the time so I went with factory original know any silver cover won't do The silver cover off of another prius's hybrid battery out of another generation two or from a battery rebuilder that has the cases stacked out behind the shop trying to get them to the dump That's been my experience. There aren't any other silver covers that will fit It's not like you can just go order up a silver cover somewhere to fit a battery this will be an original cover from Toyota that some moron has a painted yet or personalized doesn't matter if somebody went in there and rebuilt the better not looking at the battery inside they just want it from the outside to look just like a factory freaking battery and that's that they don't open it up and count the modules and all this kind of nonsense You're not turning in the front end of your battery which is the computer the ground strip the relays that's staying with you

    Why do you want to deal with the hassle of a Toyota Stealership deciding if they have to pay you back $1380 or not? You live in the same region as Project Lithium and can get a vastly superior battery pack from: https://projectlithium.com/?ref=9qLPw And if you use that affiliate link to buy I can offer unlimited tech support. Also that way you can sell your old battery yourself to offset the cost of a Lithium upgrade. Pre-orders begin on 8/27 and deliveries begin on 9/07.

    Well, it is and it isn't. It is an OEM cover but it has been painted green by a "rebuilder". You either need to remove any trace of the green paint – while leaving all the OEM stickers untouched – or find a bare metal top cover (and any other painted parts) from a wrecker or rebuilder as others have said. Toyota is less likely to accept an obviously tampered-with battery. Different people have had different experiences, but if you want to increase your odds of hassle-free exchange, lose the green paint and non-OEM stickers. While you have the cover off, remove any sharpie marking off the modules as well.

    Ah I was not aware of that option. Been binging on the Prius App Youtube channel and looking up reviews. I've always been a technology laggard (my first non ICE vehicle was this 2007 Prius purchased 15 years after it's birth), but I may have to give PL a try. Appreciate any other input before 8/27!

    If I pre-order PL on 8/27, would I be able to pick up in LaVerne instead of waiting for the delivery? I assume that would save on the delivery charge.

    Installation video?

    What would one of the certified installers cost?

    Do they offer the $200 NiMh buyback program that was mentioned in one of their videos?

    Local pickup/delivery is precisely why I being in the same region is a good thing. Shipping Lithium packs are expensive. And same with NiMH...

    The guy who runs the buyback program is professor Joe: https://2ndlifebattery.com/contact-us/ and you simply put your old pack in the packaging the new lithium pack comes in and he'll send shipping label and buy it minus shipping cost. Unless you have plans to travel to beautiful Bend, Oregon and then no shipping cost for that either and you'll get your full $200. Alternatively professor Joe has trucks out picking stuff up in neighboring states periodically so he might be able to line you up?

    As for an installation it takes a little under three hours and most mechanics have a bunch of add ons. But if you have a friend or family member who works on cars, you could figure it out together and myself and all of Prius Chat folks can help walk you through it so install doesn't cost much.

    Thank you for all this info. I work on all my cars and I'm really good at following instructions, so I will plan to do this myself. But I'm an electronics idiot, so if there are any official or recommended installation videos, that would be appreciated.

    Given version 1 has been sold out, is it advisable to order version 2 right on 8/27 due to high demand? Or is there enough supply that it's ok to wait?

    All new packs are version 2 now... And we're all a bit of an idiot when it comes to electrons because they're weird... But an install of one of these is just basic nuts and bolts stuff.

    And there's plenty of videos about saftey concerns when removing battery packs that you'll want to be sure you've seen a bit of.

    Took out the refurbished battery. No bolts at all along the bottom on both sides. I assume that’s poor form by the installer.

    Anyway I assume the bolts are supposed to be reused on the PL battery. Since I don’t have any, what size bolt and thread will I need to buy?

    I trim my brackets that hold my over tray on top of the battery down so that removal of the battery only takes a couple minutes and only battery hold downs needed or along that front edge right behind your plastic storage under tray and the ones from the bracket on the very top of the pack that's held in enough so that if the car gets upside down You're still good so no problem I took a picture of my trimmed brackets I don't post them here because you got to do a bunch of work to do it or something but it's a simple trim with my electric angle grinder literally take seconds everything stays pretty much the same it's just the bolt holes and the wrap around to the back which is actually the front of the battery are just no longer used so I don't have to put the seat down or any of that. But they're just standard 10 and 12 mm headed bolts nothing special tractor supply or any of those places will have them these things are like a half and at max 3/4 length or the metric equivalent but yeah I have em in buckets here.

    You should really have some of those. The battery pack is fairly heavy. If you're in a collision, those screws help keep things in place so the modules can't hit the inside of the metal housing (and short).

    Without them, the only retainer are the plastic end frames - which could break.

    Are these bottom bolts holding the blades the same size as the side bolts on the bus bars? If not what size are they?

    New question.

    I load tested each blade with a halogen headlight bulb while bingeing on a Netflix series. Ran 5 minutes starting at 7.75v.

    5 stayed at 7.3v or higher
    18 ended at 7.0-7.29v
    5 dropped below 6.99v to as low as 6.61v.

    Do I need to run the load test longer or is that sufficient to determine whether these blades are ok?

    Could my many corroded bus bars have caused my P0AA6? Unfortunately don’t know sub code but betting on battery. I’m wondering if the cleaned up bus bars will solve the issue and let me delay the lithium.

    The most common cause for the P0AA6 in the battery is leaking electrolyte. That needs to be cleaned off the case anywhere you find it. You need to replace any modules that are leaking electrolyte. Leaking modules usually don't show anything unusual electrically speaking, so close inspection is how you will find them.
