Buttons don't work, but the things they control, do?

new to posting, been using y'all for a while to fix up my car - I just finished cleaning the EGR today and went to start up my car. I noticed that my "AUDIO", "APPS", and phone button don't work, but I can still turn on/off my audio, and cycle through bluetooth/aux/AM/FM/USB using the "mode" button on my steering wheel. Eject, "SETUP", and "CAR" still work. I feel like I may have knocked something loose, since there are so many dang things in the way of the EGR system - would anyone know what cable that might be? Tried on/off & unplugging battery. Thanks!

I don't think any of the dang things in the way of the EGR system would cause anything like this with your infotainment stuff though.

Sounds more likely you've got some flaky buttons, and that happened around the same time as you were working on the EGR (what we used to call a 'coincidence', before people started insisting those never happen).

After some playing around, I can say with 100% certainty, it's not the buttons themselves, but the underlying infotainment system. The audio button itself will display if the steering wheel mode button switches it to anything except Bluetooth or USB. The audio button cannot, however, be used to reach the audio choice menu. If the audio is displayed for CD, and the mode switches it over to USB, for example, it only shows a blank screen. However, Bluetooth and USB still technically are connected, as it still allows me to play the last folder of music I was playing in USB mode, but I cannot skip using the dash or steering wheel buttons.

While there may not be any wires dealing with the infotainment system near the EGR, I did lay my body all over the engine area trying to get to the various parts - does anyone have access to the schematic of where the infotainment wires go throughout the system? Has anyone run into this issue before? While I realize correlation doesn't always equal causation, the evidence that this is something I did to the system when my 2012 Prius V's infotainment system has worked flawlessly up until I messed around under the hood is too large to ignore.

I'm pretty sure I've seen larger evidence. But if you want to pursue it, access to the wiring diagrams is explained here:

I haven't seen any threads of anyone else with a similar issue, and I think you'll find from the diagrams that infotainment circuits generally aren't near where you were working.
