    Hi All,

I replaced my HVAC evaporator and while reassembling the car, I inadvertently did not install the connector to the transponder key ECU. Multiple on/off button pushes later (probably more than 20) I figured out the transponder key ECU was not connected.
I connected the transponder key ECU but the car still refuses to turn on in any mode. The security indicator now works and extinguished when the key is inserted into the key slot but the on/off button does absolutely nothing. I verified power and grounds to the power control ECU and the switch circuit checks good at the power control ECU.

At this point I am certain all the connectors are indeed reconnected. Is it possible the immobilizer is somehow at play? I cannot read any codes as the car will not power up.

    Thanks for your consideration

Is this the black SKS computer behind the speedometer? I guess the question to be asking first is this an SKS silverback remote car?

    Hello and welcome to PriusChat!

What scantool are you using? Is it capable of communicating with the 15-16 systems on a Gen2 Prius?

Normally you should be able to connect to several ecu's even without the key present. These are: power source control, body control, Smart Key (if equipped), gateway, and immobilizer.

Cycling the hazard switch and the door open/closed should "wake up" the BCM and allow comm.

I might also suggest checking all fuses (underhood and underdash). Also see what works on the car right now. Interior and exterior lights? Remote unlocking? Does stepping on the brake pedal a few times trigger the ABS pump?

FYI your first 5 posts are moderated and might take some time to appear on the thread after you submit.

I’m not familiar with the SKS system. There is a small computer standing vertically underneath the combination meter. My understanding is that is a power control ECU

Some Gen2 (2004-2009) Prius were equipped with the Smart Key System. This allowed the driver to just have the fob in his/her pocket and walk up to the car (it would unlock), get in and power up to ready (no need to use the dash slot).

SKS cars had little black square buttons on the exterior front door and tailgate handles, a "key" button underneath the steering column (next to the "TPMS" button), and had fobs with silver Toyota logo on back (non SKS were black).

Since you are using the dash slot (and that affects the security light) but still have problems, SKS shouldn't be relevant right now.

Pressing the key button would turn SKS off and the car would function like a "normal" Prius - you would have to use the fob buttons to unlock and the dash slot to power up. This uses less power when the car is sitting so the 12V battery will not discharge as quickly if left for several weeks. (I never remember if the button has to be clicked IN or OUT to disable the system)

The way I remember it is that switch is to disable the SKS, so IN is the SKS is disabled and OUT is the SKS is not disabled.

Ok. Yes the car has the SKS and it seems to be working at least to lock and unlock the doors

I have obtained a better scanner. I’ll post again when I see what codes might be in the immobilizer system

    Ok.
I obtained a tech stream setup. The fault is B2785. The power control ECU seems to have a faulty connector that when I move the wires away from there normal installed position, the car suddenly comes to life.
I have ordered a replacement connector do hopefully this problem will be behind me next week
    Thanks
