2007 Prius P0A93

    I recently picked up a 2007 Prius with about 240k in great shape. So far I have replaced all the fluids, hybrid battery was replaced and I replaced the inverter pump. I made sure to bleed all the air out. I got a P0A93 a while back and replaced the inverter pump with an Aisin off Amazon. The car drive fine for weeks and yesterday the code came back on. I’m starting to think I never needed to replace the pump because the both seemed to work. I can feel the coolant move in the hose and see a small amount of movement in the tank. Not sure what to do next to trouble shoot. I cleared the code and drove today and it was fine. I live in Phoenix Arizona where it’s hotter than hell and sometimes my ac stops working it’s so hot. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but my AC stopped working yesterday briefly as well, the air slowly got warm. Did my old car just get too hot? Should I test my 12v battery? Should I add a coolant additive? Any suggestions?

    Maybe you have a blockage in the cooling loop somewhere, so you not getting adequate flow.

    What you want to do no matter how hot it is just get the car warmed up however long that takes in Arizona 30 minutes of driving and then you want to get out and grab the hoses that are going into and out of the inverter pump usually I use a heat gun like you use for home inspections and various and sundry other things and see literally what the temperature is coming in and out of the inverter like have numbers like as mentioned above you may not be moving adequate amount of water or coolant through the inverter this is the only able to be seen by temperature generally . I don't even use that type of pump to move that fluid anymore I changed to another type of pump that seems to be more reliable It's a pump that's on the car it's just in a different place I moved it and put it in the inverter loop and don't use the pancake pump anymore and this has been sitting running like this for over 2 years now it seems like and in North Carolina which is relatively hot The thing is not budged for at least 18 months I don't even think about the inverter cooling much anymore.

    So, P0A93 sets when the inverter gets too hot. When that happens the hybrid control ecu starts limiting inverter function to to protect it. First thing that to be disabled is the A/C compressor. Eventually the car is effectively "turned off" until the inverter cools down.

    The most common cause of this code is a faulty inverter pump. However, lots of things can also factor in. If the coolant was never changed regularly, then deposits can form and restrict coolant passages. I have had to remove hoses everywhere I can reach on the inverter system and use a hose to (carefully) flush everything in both directions. Sometimes clogged parts have to be replaced.

    Both radiator fans have to work on low (A/C on) and high (engine at full temperature) speeds. The radiator and condenser have to be in good condition - fins are intact and not clogged with dirt or tree debris. All shrouds, air dams, and undershields have to be properly fitted.

    You might need some way to measure temperatures going in and out of the inverter section of the radiator, and compare with the scantool data for the inverter.

    Also you may have bought a bad INvertor pump. I ALWAYS go OEM on INvertor pump and spark plugs. Amazon sells lots, and lots, and lots and lots, of cheap junk. OEM is $165 so if you paid $50 you got junk.
