Invalid mode vs. Battery disconnect

Is the mechanic experienced with Prius brake bleeding? Have checked with a Toyota dealership service department, got a quote? If I no to the first, I'd recommend the second.

First of all, I am trying to get rid of ABS light, Brake light, Traction light sign off my dashboard that's appearing (on my prius v 2013 with 180,000 miles) ever since I changed my break pads. So,can this be fixed with bleeding the brake system, I flushed the brake fluid, but now the lights come on and off intermittently. I really appreciate your response thank you

 

Have you used a code reader? What codes did you get if you have?
Does the brake pedal feel soft? Does your regenerative braking stop working?
Sounds to me like you have a bad ABS Sensor.

 

Please post the trouble codes. Those dash lights can come on for about two hundred different reasons. That's enough possibilities that it's really no use trying to guess, generalize, or copy what somebody else did when their dash lights came on. If we know the trouble codes, we can start figuring it out.

 

I just saw this thread today after changing my brake fluid yesterday by following NutzAboutBolts' video. How much old fluid is left in the non-failsafe hydraulic circuit? Is there a way to bleed that fluid in "Invalid Mode"?

 

"A little bit" was my story and I'm sticking to it; I don't have any more precise information.

To bleed it you need a scan tool that will tell the brake ECU to open the necessary valves in the proper sequence.

 

how do you get into invalid mode with a key instead of a button?

From what I can tell, in Gen 3 there are two ways to get into ECB Invalid mode, one where you get there through a little dance, and one where you get there by asking for ECB Invalid mode in Techstream or another scan tool. And the two don't seem exactly identical.

Either one will keep the car from yelling at you while you work on the brakes, but if you use the version you get into with a scan tool, you also need a scan tool when you're done, because it will set the evil C1451 code, which only the scantool-initiated bleeding procedure can unset.

I don't know what details may be different in later generations.
