I have 07 Prirus and Verizon LG VX8300 Phone, I have some problem below:

Most of the time (90% of the time) I only can go to Speed Dial, all others functions like Phone Book, Call Log, and Setting are Grey out that I can not dial name from Phone Book or dial number or, access Call log or Setting. I have to open my phone to dial by name or by number.

How do you fix thi problem? Please help.

    Thanks

Those functions are not available when the car is in motion. The solution is to install a manual override of the speed sensor. Search the Audio & Electronics Forum for the topics associated with this modification.

Dial by name and dial by number are available during motion. Use the controls on the steering wheel to access.

If you have numbers registered in Speed Dial, that is also available while you are driving....you can touch that and then the numbers you have put in for Speed Dialing will be available to select.

Hmm, this does not work for me during the car in motion even I use the control on the steering wheel to access.

Renocat, can you give a quick procedure how to dial by name while it in motion.

    Thanks.

In my 2006 package #7,this is what I do to use voice dial:

    * Press the talk switch on the steering wheel and say "dial by name"
    * Jill says "Dial by name has been chosen. After the screen has updated please press the talk switch"
    * Press the talk switch
    * Jill says, "Please say the name"
    * I say the name I have programmed to the number
    * Jill says "Name chosen. Please briefly touch the talk switch or touch the off hook switch to dial"
    * I press the off hook switch (telephone with receiver off the hook) and the call dials.

I hear the call dial, the person answers and I am good to go. I have dialed a name without touching the MFD, only the steering wheel.

The process is almost the same for dial by number, which I use to call a person that is not in my phonebook. There is one extra push of the talk switch, that seems like a glitch, but it still works.

When I have an incoming call, the radio cuts out, and I hear a generic ring through my car speakers, not my ring tone. Sometimes my phone will actually ring about a 1/2 a ring and then I hear the generic ring through the speakers. I haven't quite figured that one out yet.

You must have voice tags programmed to the numbers you have entered into the car's phonebook. If you have Verizon, you can't transfer your phone's phonebook, you will have to manually enter them one by one.

    Hi Renocat,

Thanks for the procedure. I tried your procedure but only dial by voice activation works. However, dial by number is not working. To sum up, When car in motion only speed dial and voice activation are the two work.

Verizon LG VX8300 can transfer phone book to Prius bluetooth but only 10 names at a time; it's actually called "Send Name Card".

    Thanks again.

WHen I say dial by number, I mean I do the same procedure above except instead of saying dial by name I say dial by number. Jill then tells me to push the talk switch and say the number. I speak the number and then she repeats it and tells me to hit the off hook switch.

    Hi Renocat, Thanks again.

    Questions:

1-Okay, My voice is no good for the phone system voice activation does not work for me, how do I dial a number if it's not preset or preprogram while the car in motion by using bluetooth??

2-When your car in motion say above 10 miles on your car, are the functions like Phone Book, Call Log, and Setting Grey out??

Yes those functions are greyed out. Honestly, I do just exactly what I outlined above and I can make a call by either saying the name I have programmed into the car's phonebook or I can dial a number by speaking the individual digits of the number when prompted.

There has been some discussion here about the gain level on the mic. Maybe that is your issue?

At this point, a solution would be, as IsrAmeriPrius suggested, is to cut the Speed Sensor Wire and install a switch. Turning the switch to OFF makes the car think it's stopped and you have full phone access (also access to MP3 info as well as the Messages from any FM station). Turn it back to ON when you're done dialing. This wire also sends the signal for the 5-minute bars on the Consumption Screen as well as the turning wheels on the Energy Screen. If it's off for a short period of time, no information is lost.

I would hate to see someone cut a wire in their car when the car already has full functionality to place a call either by name or number. There are several threads here about this same topic and once you take the time to do the steps required, the dial by name and dial by number voice activaction work just fine.

Does it really make sense to force you to use the cellphone to dial while in motion?
Isn't your line-of-sight typically below the dash when focusing on your cellphone than when focusing on your MFD?

The restriction on dialing while in motion is a Toyota legal CYA.
If you have an accident while focused on your cellphone, Toyota is in the clear.
But, in the view of Toyota's legal braintrust, if your accident occurs while focused on THEIR MFD...well, a motivated lawyer has a some cards to play with.

It's simply stupid to focus on a small display that can be positioned anywhere instead of a larger display that is heads-up and consistently positioned and nearer to your normal driving gaze.
This is plainly another case where fear of liablility trumps practicality.

The alternatives...setup speedial numbers and use voice commands while in motion.
Well, speedial is fine for the known frequent calls, otherwise voice commands need some work and are NOT a viable alternative.
What are the costs of dealing with the frustrations of voice recognition to driving safety?

Come'on Toyota, do what you've always done...what makes sense.
Let us enter phone numbers on the MFD.
    Take the lead on this...

I can dial any number while in motion simply by saying dial by number. When prompted by Jill, I speak the individual digits. She tells me to push the off hook switch to dial and my call goes through. Never take my hands off the wheel or my eyes off the road.

You need to stop your car or use your voice/speed dial. This is prohibited so your hands are on the wheel for safety.

I just use speed dial. I have all the slots filled with my most important numbers....dial by name and number are a pain...often doesn't recognize the number no matter how clearly I say it...and too many steps for dial by name.

Speed Dial works. I use it with fast results.

I too got the LG VX8300 to transfer it's phonebook to the Prius phonebook. It wasn't intuitive and I kept getting an error message stating I must disconnect the audio device... Finally got through it 10 entries at a time, but I couldn't elaborate the steps. I can't seem to break the code for adding voice tags to phonebook entries. Help would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Phil

go to edit the down loaded phone book.
select one of the downloaded names.

here is the tricky part. when you look at the info to edit (picture#3) press the scroll down arrow (lower left)
and you will see the next page which shows the name tag button. press the VOICE REC. button and say the name(tag).

    see pictures below

note: after you add the tags you will see the mic icon by the name as in picture #2
