Just bought a high mileage 2020 Corolla Hybrid and see mixed information as to what battery type the Corolla has, LI or NimH. Also, what is the life expectancy of the battery? Is age more the determining factor than miles?

The Corolla hybrid replaced the Prius C. The Prius C had the smallest battery pack of any of the Prius lineup - so I'm assuming the Corolla has a smaller pack than a standard Prius. It's also cheaper than a Prius, so more than likely old technology NiMH. You can take your VIN into a dealership and ask for the part number of a replacement battery pack - that should tell you what type of batteries are in your pack.
The good news is that 2020+ model years gets a 10 year 150K mile warranty on the battery packs. Since it's high mileage car, the pack should be in good shape. I would dive into the battery cooling system. Clean out and replace any filters - make sure it's operating properly, assuming it's over the 150K mile warranty.

    Good Luck.....

Yes, well over the warranty. My wholesale cost from Toyota is $2000, so it can't be Li then.

I'm 80% sure it's old tech NiMH, especially if it's an early build 2020 sold in late 2019. Again VIN to dealership to make sure.

First off, no the Corolla Hybrid did not replace the Prius c. They're two different vehicles.

The 2020 Corolla Hybrid uses the same battery as the Gen 4 Prius - 201V NiMH battery pack. I think it was 2021 when they started using the blend of either NiMH or Li-Ion and you don't know which one you're getting.

Not sure but budget for 10 to 15 years. (Our Gen 2 on the older NiMH lasted 11.5 years).

Usually age is a bigger factor than miles for private ownership. Prius taxis in Canada have gone 500,000-750,000km on a battery pack before replacement.

OK, Prius C was eliminated and the Corolla Hybrid was added to the line-up.

It's uses the same chassis and suspension as the IV gen I doubt they would change just the battery pack. Also NIMH is not "OLD" tech, the IV gen AWD uses them because they offer better performance in cold weather than LIon
