Only 15,000 Gen 5 Priuses and 10,000 Gen 5 Prius Primes so far?

    Cybertruck…talk about overkill. Electricity isn’t cheap either at least where I live it isn’t. Another reason for other countries to laugh at us.

    I never charge at home but am all set up to. Most of the time I use a free wall plug in a parking garage during the daily walks and that is enough for my low mileage use. I often pass up free available Level 2 stations now. I didn’t realize the gen 4 Prime was this good as an ev. There is a huge difference for a low daily mileage driver to get a plug in over the standard hybrid.

    Thirty thousand is around where the Prius hybrid sales settled at a few years ago. Before the pandemic. More options and sales have been dropping sales for years. I wasn't going to be surprised if Toyota had cancelled the hybrid for North America.

    The Prime sales were that high because incentives made it cheaper than the hybrid. That no longer applies, and the larger battery increased cost. In addition to that, Toyota has a limited supply of batteries, which also needs to be used for increased production of EVs for other markets.

    And when the Prius was selling at 200k, the Camry was selling over 400k a year in the US. The hybrid Camry will only sell about the same number as the Prius this year. Their other hybrids are selling better, but there are other factors consider. Discounts, the use of NiMH for them meaning better supply, and pricing structures favorable to the hybrid model.

    Not only did the Rav4 hybrid displace the Prius as number one Toyota hybrid in the US because of the SUV preference, but also because of how Toyota priced it. They hid the hybrid premium by only selling at in AWD form. The thousands people were willing to pay for AWD on the ICE model went to the hybrid system. For $700 more why not get the hybrid that was also more powerful.

    Saw a video from a guy salesman who got a report (couldn't show it on YouTube), but said that people that had a build date of 7/23 like mine will not get their keys at Phase 5, which will not be until Q1, 2024.

    Here's the video- it's a bit confusing, but if you listed for your vehicle, then the build mo/year, you'll see which Phase you should get your key...

    We were a bit excited by the new Prius models and had pretty much decided we wanted a Prime XSE Premium with the solar roof. We were disappointed by the lack of exciting paint colors available for this new sporty looking car - not even good colors available on other Toyotas. Then we started seeing the very meager inventory and outrageous "market adjustments". So sadly we have decided not to get a new Prius. The old 2010 will soldier on for a while until we get the EV we have reserved. I didn't really want to go EV, as I feel it's still a bit early in the whole development arc of vehicle electrification. I guess I'll just have to be happy with being a bit of a not real early, early adopter.

    Evidence of low sales numbers of the 2023 Prius is that I have been driving my '23 Prius in the Dallas/Ft Worth area (millions of people) for almost 7 months and have yet to see another '23 Prius.

    I'm one of those who happily made that choice in 2019. Toyota has since figured out that people would pay more. The hybrid premium is about twice that now.

    It's around $1600 now. Same for the Highlander and Corolla. That's a price cut for the Corolla, which would help explain why the hybrid model is selling better than the Camry hybrid. I think the Camry hybrid price difference decreased some, but is still over $2000.

    Yes, true, but it's also evidence of your market/locations' preferences. I live in a much smaller city in Canada, and I've seen about 5 or 6 of them by now. I'm also surprised by the number of Teslas and Ioniqs that I see in our city of ~420,000.

    Toyota’s management last year said they can sell 15 hybrids using the batteries required by one Prime and almost 80 hybrids using batteries needed by one EV.
