Just before 30k miles on my odometer, the maint reqd light would come on and blink. (as usual before an oil change etc.). Normally I would change my oil and filter and reset the maint reqd light. This time, before I had a chance to change oil and filter, the maint reqd light came on and stayed on and did not blink. I tried to reset as usual but it stayed on. How can I get the light to reset? I also changed my air & AC filter and did various checks. Will I have to take my car to the dealer to get it reset or is there a problem with something else that I'm not aware of? Thanks

Try resetting it again, maybe you missed something in the convoluted reset procedure.

It blinks for awhile and then stays on permently at 5k miles. The last time I changed my oil it had already gotten to the stay on stage but the normal reset procedure turned it off.

    Good luck.

How did you try to reset it?

If you've set up maintenance schedules in the maintenance area on the MFD, the light will stay on once you are within a certain range of needing the service. Until you reset the maintenance interval there, it will not go off.

 Try the "Owner's Manual" Section 2-5 Operation of Instruments and Controls (page 122 in the 2004 Manual). These paragraphs explain the functions of the "Maint Req'd" light and how to turn it off after the service has been performed. This is not puzzling... just standard operating procedure clearly explained in the Owner's Manual.

After oil changes every 5k at the dealer, I've just hit 50,000 miles and finally had my oil changed elsewhere. This is NOT in the Index of the manual, so I've had to search. Thanks, Charles, for helping me find it. Per my 2005 manual page 122 (since nobody really wants to type all this in...):

    (j) Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light (for vehicles sold in the U.S.A.)

This light acts as a reminder to replace the engine oil.

This light will come on when the "IG-ON" mode is enabled, and will go off after about a few seconds.

When you drive for about 7200 km (4500 miles) after the engine oil replacement, this light illuminates for about 3 seconds and then flashes for about 12 seconds when the hybrid system is in the "IG-ON" mode. If you continue driving without engine oil replacement, and if the driving range exceeds 8000 km (5000 miles), the light will come on after the "IG-ON" mode is enabled. The light will remain on thereafter

If the light is flashing, we recommend that you replace the engine oil at an early opportunity depending on the driving and road conditions. If the light comes on, replace the oil as soon as possible.

The system must be reset after the engine oil replacement. Reset the system by the following procedure:

    1. Press the "POWER" switch to the "OFF" mode with the odometer reading shown. (For details, see "Odometer and two trip meters" on page 115.)

    2. Press the "POWER" switch twice to select the "IG_ON" mode while holding down the trip meter reset button.

Hold down the button for at least 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off.

If the system fails to reset, the light will remain flashing.

I know this is a really old thread but the information is relevant and worked for me. After trying several other suggestions that were much more complicated.

I just really wanted to thank you, Teeje!
