What is a good dash cam for the new Prius? I have the Toyota integrated dash cam in my RAV4 but I'm thinking of something else for the Prius. Thanks!

I'm currently using an old smartphone as a dash cam. Just gotta buy a phone holder and download a dash cam app.

Don't forget to take the phone down so your car doesn't get broken into though.

We are very satisfied with our Blackvue cameras. I installed a DR900 model (forward only) in each of our cars.

Highlight features- it's great sharp 4K video, good sensitivity at night, and they do not have any onboard batteries to overheat on hot summer days when the car interior is roasting.

The g-sensors are a bit more sensitive than I would prefer but they are adjustable.

Had them for a couple of years now and they just work.

I have used Thinkware in my past vehicles with excellent results. A company called FITCAMX is supposedly designing an integrated dash cam that will fit the 2023+ Prius. They make them for older models. They took my email address to let me know when it would be available. Hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer or else I will explore other options like Thinkware or Blackvue.

I install a Wolfbox G850 as dash and digital rearview mirror.
Is a cheaper option and cover the issue to the small rearview mirror.

Where and how did you mount the rearview camera? I'm not interested in drilling quite yet.

I mounted it with the 3M tape that the camera came with at the top of rear window.
No drilling or mounting rack require but I do have to pull the frame robber out to tuck the wire in.
Reset of the wire can be tuck in to the passenger side frame and hide in the casing on the front window.

I did the same thing today. It’s going to take some time to get used to a camera vs a mirror but it’s nice to be able to see again.

Anyone have photos of their dash cam installed? I have used Blackvues before but the body style does not seem to fit well with the Gen 5 Prius layout. I would have went with the integrated but read bad reviews about the quality of it and the fact that it does not have a rear option. I am looking at the Thinkware 3000 and having it mounted on the passenger side right by the windshield shroud/dot matrix or Viofo A229 mounted in the same area. Both look pretty bulky.

Fitcamx's website shows they have one for a Prius but doesn't specify if it'll fit a Prime. I emailed them and they're not sure; they want me to check if the part number on the "Forward recognition cover" is 86466-47070 but I'm reluctant to pop off the cover. I wonder if the wiring is the same as I think a Prius lacks the Prime's humidity sensor that's near the cover

Has anyone used FitcamX before? It looks pretty bare bones but I like the low profile and integrated design of it.

I removed the cover and the part # matches. Ordered the 2-camera version

Mine is on order too. They asked me to send them a photo of the hump behind the mirror from a sideview to verify.

Looking forward to your installation and usage reviews!
I really want something integrated that doesn't obstruct the front window and this looks like a great well-priced option.

I can tell you what NOT to get.

    Do NOT get a Rexing.

I've gone round and round with them about a dash cam that changes time, fails to record hard braking incidents and will just not record a drive. They replaced the camera under warranty but the new one does the same damn thing. I'm thinking their firmware is all fubar and that's what's causing it.

    It's a china camera....

I installed the fitcamx on my 24 Limited - the instruction from them is for Lexus NX, which is not helpful.
To take out the cover, you need to pull down the small piece above the mirror. Then the cover would slide towards the front of windshield.
The app needs wifi to connect to the camera. This competes with Apple Carplay.
I just used another device to download the files.

What is your opinion of it so far? Did you get a rear camera? If so, where did you run the wiring. I'm waiting for warmer, dryer days to install mine.

I am waiting for the replacement shroud because mine came with a damaged little clip that means the plastic isn't flush with the window (sad times but fitcam is mailing me a new plastic casing for free), but the quality when I tested it was solid.

I too, am waiting for better weather to do the rear dash cam install. The cold has returned to Ottawa so we're back below 0C with only a few above 0C days later this week. My single car garage isn't big enough to keep the car in it and warm and have room to work unfortunately. I've put up too many shelves and organizers to fit stuff alongside the compact cars we've always had.

The front cam is nice though, and very easy to install inside the car with the heat on. Running wires for the rear, taking clips off the hatchback, etc, that's all stuff I don't trust doing in the cold given the space I have.

The camera itself, when i opened up the casing to see how a swap on the plastic case would work with the instructions they sent (to avoid shipping for an exchange to china) seems average. Probably the same basic internals as most other mid range cameras like the Viofo 119 for example. You are however paying a premium for the OEM fitment and casing.

It also doesn't have parking mode unless you hardwire to the car like other ones.

As for rear wiring, i had the same question in another thread. And some folks say it shouldn't get in the way of side curtain bags if its tucked into the headliner, alternatively it can probably run along the lower trim and base of the car to avoid the side curtain airbags entirely.
