Somewhat ironically I will say the only straight fossil fuel vehicle we have now is a Mercedes turbo diesel chassis under a motorhome. Everything else is plug-in.

Relatively new 2023 LE owner. About 1500 glorious miles on it. 59+ MPG total so far. Everything was going well (meaning I was getting used to duck, squat and bend to get in). Then on September 11, on the way home from Lodge, I didn't yield to a large buck deer standing on his road. His antler caught the driver's mirror and threw him into the side of the car. $12,000 damage to my first ever new car. I am devastated. Luckly, I have worked closely with a local body shop on my 1959 Ford Galaxy Skyliner Retractable. He has done very well. Uses water base paint. Planning to pick up the car this week if lucky. I'll try to post pictures here.
I'm still planning to trade my wife's 2018 for a 2023. I'm kind of car guy. My main website is Dunlavy US Home Page - link to the 2023 Prius is 2023 Prius Pictures -

Congratulations and welcome to PriusChat! I like that colour, very smart - my 2009 Gen II is "Magnetic Grey" which a very nice shade and looks similar to yours. My last Toyota was a DX Corolla Wagon which was "Arctic White" but it failed State Inspection (rotten rocker-panels) although the engine and transmission still ran beautifully (with nearly 300,000 miles on the odometer). I didn't realize it at the time but my friend Craig (an expert and master on anything to do with automobiles) tells me that white or lighter coloured cars are more prone to corrosion the reason being since the white car body doesn't absorb as much heat as a car of a darker shade, and all the panels and seams tend to stay wet, and thus promote corrosion, whereas the darker colours tend to absorb more heat and thus dry out quicker and more thoroughly.

That being said, welcome again to PriusChat, you will find this to be the perfect place to learn all you will ever need to know about your new Prius! (…and folk here just love to share information! :))

Just discovered this thread and have to post too!
Back: My 2003 Gen1, bought new.
    Middle: My wife's 2014 Gen3 Prius V
Front: My new PPPXP (Pretty Prius Prime XSE Premium)

We decided it was time to retire the Gen1 last summer. As part of its "Farewell Tour" we drove it first from Colorado to the Florida Keys in the fall of 2022, then up to the Arctic Circle in Alaska this spring. We were looking forward to the 2022 Prius Prime when all the hullabaloo about the Gen5 came out. We got on several waiting lists right before starting the Alaska trip in May and were lucky enough to snag a "reject" in August.

The Gen1 is still doing fine after 20 years and 220,000 miles. We gave it to a nephew who has a 50 mile commute to save on gas money.

Montgomery: Alas mine wasn't worth much. It got hammered by a hailstorm about a decade ago and was technically totaled. Not a big deal to me, they paid me off and I kept the car. It was and still is a poster child of Toyota reliability. In those 20 years I tallied up only about $2,500 in non-scheduled maintenance! The PPPXP has a lot to live up to! I gave the car to a nephew who has a 50 mile commute, so pretty sure it will serve him well and save a lot of gas money compared to the SUV he has been driving.

The insurance claim inspection was pretty funny too. The adjuster walked around the car once, then spent the next 15 minutes examining the interior, engine compartment, etc. I was confused and asked why he was looking at the engine and interior for a hail damage claim. He said he knew walking up to the car it would be totaled, so his effort was looking at the rest of the car to determine its salvage value. I kept very good care of the car, so got a decent check and only paid liability insurance on it from there on.

If my nephew doesn't need the car for some reason I probably could have first refusal rights to get it back, but don't have a need or space for three cars.

Hi there, I thought I was on here years ago but couldn’t find my account so I made a new one, it’s been so long I may as well be new. Currently working on a 2012 and 2005 Prius but primary is the 2005 and 2008 Prius. Daily the 2005 with 365k miles (using math as there’s now a new gauge in at 290k)

First time Prius owner. 2023 XLE. I placed a deposit in April. Picked her up on September 20th. First new car since I bought my Honda Civic in 2002. The Civic served me well for 21 years. I loved that car.
But, I love my Prius! There has been a huge learning curve with a hybrid and all of the electronics and sensors. So glad I found this blog!
Yes, the sales guy put a big red bow on it - a request from my husband when we placed the deposit.

@piefa0: Yay on the new car. My 2023 Prime replaced a 2003 Gen1 Prius. I understand the learning curve of making a 20 year leap in car technology! :) I'm used to yelling at my car, but still not used to my car yelling back at me! Before the only thing the car complained about was forgetting my seatbelt. Now it has hundreds of reasons to question my intelligence. Alas I fear most of the time it is right! :)
