Hi all. Would really appreciate any input on this. I have a 2005 Prius (140,000 miles) which I've had for over 4 years. Shortly after buying my prius (used), the Red Triangle came on while driving with the iconic parking malfunction message on the main screen ("Parking is abnormal. Park on flat surface."). The triangle has come and gone ever since. Sometimes it would be months between coming on, would stay on for a day, then it would be gone the next day. Because of this, I never gave it much thought. Until recently when I was driving and it came on. I've become accustomed to this symbol popping up so I didn't think much of it, but when I came to a stop, my car essentially turned itself off. The dash and main screen lights were still on, but there was no power to the pedal and the shifter would no longer go into Drive or Reverse (just N and P). I took my foot off the pedal, turned the car off, turned it back on, and was able to drive home (red triangle still present). Anywho, because of this, I've brought my car into a shop and they've pulled these codes: P3102 and C2300. Any one else have these symptoms or combo of these codes? Thoughts? Advice?

Also, not sure it's relevant to this issue, but more recently, my dash lights won't come on when I start my car. I found a thread discussing the quick fix flashing the headlights so I've always been able to bring the dash lights back.

    Hello and welcome to PriusChat!

Your car has a "Transmission Control Module", an ecu (electronic control unit) that operates a motor servo on the transmission. The servo applies a mechanical lock so the drive axles (and the car) can't roll away when you push the "park" button on the dash. It releases when you shift out of park.

The TCM sets code C2300 when it detects "something wrong" with the system. (not much help there).

The TCM's "boss" is the Hybrid Control ecu. The HC ecu will set P3102 when it detects certain faults with the park lock system. This code has a 3 digit INF "sub-code" that gives more specific details about the fault. Most budget scantools do not have the capability to retrieve INF codes.

The fact that this has been an intermittent problem for months would suggest that there is a wiring or connection fault somewhere in this system. You have to follow the diagnostic procedure in the service manual, be good at electrical testing and reading wiring diagrams.

I don't know if you are into DIY repair, but here is a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices. A couple are capable of reading codes and data on all systems of a Gen2 Prius - including INF codes.

As far as your dash not working correctly, that is a fairly common problem. There's a failing capacitor on the circuit board for the Combination Meter (the speedometer - cluster assembly). It prevents the cpu on the board from powering up correctly.

Besides the lack of gauges and warning lights when it acts up, as things deteriorate it can interfere with the car being able to power on or off.

If you are good at electronics soldering repair, you can pull the CM and replace the capacitor - see the sticky thread (DIY combination meter repair) at the top of this forum.

Or you can pull the CM and have it repaired (or swapped with another that's programmed with your odometer reading). See texashybridbatteries.com
