I have an '06 Gen2 and want to keep it running as long as possible. I thought it looked a bit dorky when I bought it 11 years ago but as time goes on I've come to appreciate it more.

I'd go as far as to say a clean Gen2 looks better than all gens of Priuses before and since, including recent years. I understand some people make like the 'aggressive' look of the 2023, but it's a point A to point B-mobile, it's never going to look tough so better to not even try.

Similarly, I think the late 80s/very early 90s Pickups/Hiluxes are better-looking than anything Toyota put out before or since.

Yes... In hindsight it's the nicest looking Prius. And of course the 2023 Prius looks nicer, but in terms of production numbers / availability, and people paying as much as 10K above sticker price, the 2023 doesn't really count as a mass produced Toyota Prius. More like a cruel joke of something beautiful that you can't have solely to make all the people who have to drive the increasingly uglier and uglier 2010-2022 Prius feel bad.

i loved my gen 2's, dorky look and all. but when i got my gen 3, i thought the 2 looked dated.

i won't argue with anyone who thinks gen 5 looks best, gen 4 never did anything for me, one way or the other.

gen2 basically gets the "mother's love", no matter how ugly, underpowered, no cabin sound insulation, terrible plasticky interior and tin-can feel you are.. you are still loved..

You can't really compare the Gen 1 to any other Prius. Sedan vs hatchback. I think the Gen 2 looks better than the Gen 3 and although I don't mind the look of the Gen 3, but wouldn't have one for other reasons. I have never really liked, and still don't, the look of the Gen 4. I do, however like the look of the Gen 5, and is the first newer Gen Prius I'd consider when/if the time comes.

As far as a solid workhorse, nothing beats the Gen 2.

    That's my thoughts.

I like the gen 2 and 3 exterior styling roughly the same. The gen 2 front end looks a little “friendlier” to me, if I personify the look. Gen 3 looks a bit more “advanced”, but incrementally so, still pleasing. I prefer it, but obviously I’ve chauvinistic motives.

gen 4, I don’t wanna talk about it.

gen 5, I think the design team is in full panic mode, trying to emulate Tesla or god knows what.

Gen2 is the best looking as evidenced by cars like Tesla essentially copying the 2nd Gen's rounded design and aerodynamic lines. The diagonal body line on side of the Gen3's and Star-Trek-dashboard-center-console-thing dated themselves very quickly. Gen 2 lines are timeless like the VW bug. I will be selling my Gen 2 soon so I am probably just being sentimental.

The 2nd Gen Prius is known as the “iconic shape” for a reason. To think people called it ugly!
I also think it’s arguably the most beautiful Prius ever produced.
It’s been around for so long, even the haters are beginning to like the way it looks.
Has anyone taken a look at the first version of the Gen 4 lately? Looks only its mother could love - what were they thinking? From the “zig-a-zig” rear light clusters to those “predatory serpent eyed” front light clusters - that was FUGLY.
The 5th Gen is easily the holy grail of Prii - but paradoxically, we’re not allowed to have it in the UK, probably because it doesn’t look utilitarian enough for our minicab and Uber drivers who were the main purchasers of the Prius via leasing - before after 3 years, they ended up on car dealership forecourts at a more sensible price for the likes of me to buy one. Cabbies now buy the Corolla Hybrid in the UK - and it’s just not as cute as a Prius - especially if you’ve owned a Gen 2 or 3.
Instead, Toyota UK chose to replace the Prius 5th Gen with the C-HR Crossover SUV hybrid thingy - allegedly all Brits want an SUV now….
