I ordered the Lockpick 3 for my 06 Prius on 12/14 and received it on 12/15; so much for Coastal Tech prior delivery problems.

First, there are three separate kits in the $299 package and they seem to work independent of each other. The Navigation unit took 2 minutes to install, the Bluetooth unit took about an hour, but I chickened out on installing the audio/video DVD kit. I was sweating getting everything back together after I installed the Bluetooth unit on the back of the MFD, and the thought of taking more stuff apart to remove the radio just to have a DVD input that I'll probably never use made me stop.

    [attachmentid=5926]

However, everything came apart as described in the execllent instructions and, more important, went back together without a hint that half of the dash had to be partially removed.

    The Navigation Kit
What a no-brainer; snap/snap, no wires to cut and took 2 minutes to install last night. However, with this kit installed alone, I still had to tap the "I Agree" button at startup during last night's test ride. The "I Agree" bypass seems to be built into the Bluetooth kit that I installed this morning (at 5:00AM). When I went for my Bluetooth test ride this morning, "I Agree" appeared momentarily when I hit the Map button, then disappeared, as advertised. You do have to tap a new icon on the upper left corner of the Destination screen to activate the previously "greyed out" icons, BUT IT WORKS WHEN MY PRIUS IS MOVING.

    The Bluetooth Kit
Not for Installation by the timid, but as mentioned above, the instructions are very detailed. Again, once you work your way to, and removed the MFD, it's a snap/snap installation with no wires to cut. Everything popped back into place and ALL THE TOUCH SCREEN AND PHONE BOOK LOOKUP FEATURES WORK WHILE MOVING.

    The Audio/Video DVD Kit
Not installed, but it had same sturdy look and feel of the other 2 kits, with similar clear instructions.

Yes, the "Monitor" screen wheels still turn and the "Consumption" screen bars were working.

What a Christmas gift; thank you Coastal Tech.

Can you post the instruction that you received from Coasttech on the site? Also, any pictures of the kits?

    Thanks,

    E

Too late for Kit pictures; they're installed. Scanned instructions will be posted here later.

Vincent. very glad to hear your mods are everything you expected them to be. as far as Coastal goes. i have dealt with them twice. got what i wanted when i wanted it. so no comment on that. im sure your location played a part in your great delivery time. as for me, i am on the opposite side of the country from Coastal but still got my parts within a week of the order both times.

As I stated in the other thread, I installed mine this morning. Works as decribed. Can even play my iPod music videos and movies on the screen! Works great.

Hopefully fixed a dash rattle I had too. We'll see.

    Vincent,

Thank you very much for the update. I am planning to order my kit now.

Like you... I am not too interested in the video capability. However, if I do order the full kit... then I might install it. Where does it go?

If you had to do it over again, would you buy just the NAV kit, or the full kit?

    /Jim

    Get the full kit!

I like having full control of my Navi unit, but I use my bluetooth phone much more than my Navi. In addition, bypass of the "I Agree" screen seems to be a function of the bluetooth kit. The DVD kit is installed at the back of the MFD at the same time the bluetooth kit is installed. Dumb me thought the DVD kit went to the back of the radio so I didn't install that kit. Coastal Tech called me when they saw my post; I just misread the instructions.

In my car... I do use my phone a lot... but i dont think that I would be calling from the on-screen display too often. I only have a few numbers programmed into my favorites... and my phone book on my Treo would never fit into the Prius... and even if it did, it would be too cumbersome to keep syncronized since it does not automatically sync with my outlook/exchange server.

Instead... I have been doing nearly all of my dialing from the phone itself since it contains my entire address book. The phone works even when the car is moving ;)

The biggest reason that I would care for the bluetooth function is to punch up dialpad for the occasional "please press 1 now" prompt. I do use that feature a fair amount to file a flight plan, and order up fuel on the way to the airport.

So... I think that I will get the full NAV kit for my car, and only get the basic kit for my daughter's Prius. She got hers a year ago (Christmas present '05) and she has yet to pair her phone to the BT unit.

    /Jim

    Vincent,

I got my kit installed today and it is quite amazing. I am pretty quick at taking the dash apart since I also missed a connection the first time around.

I have one question for you. When you are listening to an FM station that is broadcasting RDS with a message (MSG lights up) can you view the message while driving? It is unclear if it is supposed to support this according to the Coastal website (their chart shows that the blue lockpick supports this feature, but on the prius page they do not speak about it). I really don't care either way but I do want to make sure that my system is working properly. Does yours support this?

I hope that my question makes sense!

Thanks in advance. I love the picture of the cute dog!

That feature is not supported. I asked Coastal and they confirmed it. I am not sure about the RDS stuff.

I ordered my full set of 3 kits on 12.17.06 and got them today. The basic kit is marked 3B4 on the envelope lip and has separate instruction sheet inside. The Audio/Video kit has obvious connectors. So that leaves little doubt what is in the third envelope. BT. Not that I know anything about blue tooth connectors.

The installation pages have very clear pictures in color. Now if my Sigma signal mirrors and EV would just get here so I can get all of this done at once.

    I can hardly wait.
