I have a 2013 Prius 5 with ATP and yesterday I noticed when my wife arrived home, the independent LED DRL's were a weak yellow color instead of the usual bright white. I was really busy with other things going on so didn't have time to check them but did so this morning and they were back to normal.

Has anyone noticed a similar situation or have any suggestions regarding this?

    Regards,

    Al

What were you comparing them to?

Changes in surrounding lighting can make a huge difference on the perceived color and brightness of a given light source. A white LED can look yellow if you've been looking at particularly blue lighting for a while.

On the v Five ATP, what lamps are driven as DRLs? What does 'independent' mean in this context? Some LEDs are 'switchback', some of which are white and amber. Others have amber cores with white halos.

I was comparing them to what I normally see when the car is returning to my driveway. I was working in my garden in moderately bright sunshine and noticed the difference right away.

However, since posting, it has just dawned on me why they appeared yellow and I have to admit, it is a pretty mundane reason. I had been using my weedwacker about half an hour before the car returned and forgot that I still had on my yellow-tinted safety glasses Duh! Talk about feeling foolish.

The DRL's are located below the flashers in a separate unit from the main headlight assembly. The reason I referred to them as 'independent' was to distinguish them from other models which use the headlights at reduced power for DRL's. However, as already explained in a reply to Leadfoot, the reason mine appeared to be yellow was nothing to do with the vehicle (that's the good part). I'm embarrassed to admit that I forgot I was wearing yellow-tinted saferty glasses at the time (not so good part).
