Short of taking the radio out of my car, is there a way of determining which radio will fit my 2007 Prius. The number on the lower left corner of the radio is 51824. Does anyone know which generation 2 radios are are interchangeable? The radio in the car is a standard am/fm with CD. Thanks guys!

I think pretty much all the generation 2 radios will swap out The main plug you need on the back of the radio is basically the same on all the radios there's some additional wiring and additional plugs if you have six disc changer GPS I think and things like that but I do believe by looking at the backs of various radios that go in the generation twos I think I can plug up this six disc changer in a non six disc change your car and it will work and come out of the speakers I haven't walked around with a radio and done this because it's kind of a chore and then again if you just use the same type of radio that you have IE non-6 disc changer if that's what you have WMA capable like what's in a 2008 or 9 should go and might even work in an 04 05. I don't have the older generation twos to try it in but I can in the '06 up and I believe pretty much they will be plug and play I know the MFDs can be.

Ok. great! My radio started making a very loud sound when it started up. I believe the issue with the radio is either a capacitor or some board component. When the radio warms up, it does finally work. I am not a electronics person so it would be easier to just swap it out with a used one.
Thanks, as always, for your thoughts! :)

One other thing.... I've replaced radios from time to time over the years without any issue. I was looking at a used radio on Ebay and the seller said that the radio may have to be programmed at the dealership. As far as I know, they are all plug and play. Am I correct? Thanks

If you have an aftermarket radio in your car chances are the wiring has been modified. Is your radio factory or an aftermarket brand?

I am looking at a used radio to replace my defective one. One of the ebay sellers mentioned in their posting that the radio may have to be programmed by the dealership. Others say I can just put the used replacement radio on my 07 Prius, plug it in and it will work. Thank you!

Slightly off topic, but if it were mine I would not put in one of the 6 CD changer models. Because of the more complex mechanical parts inside they are prone to more problems. Of course, if you never use the CD it likely wouldn't matter - it won't break (so that it matters) if the parts never have to move.

I agree, The car had the single CD player with the AM/FM radio....standard stuff (51824). I just want to get a junkyard or used one to replace it. Not interested in anything else. It's just some people say it has to be programmed by the dealership. I am not sure if people are mixing up programming radio stations with something that needs to be programmed with the car. Seems odd to me. At any rate, just trying to figure out if these radios are plug and play or if there is something more. Thanks.
