Did you take the whole timing cover off or just the tensioner?

If you have the timing cover on, you can take the crank pulley off (you will need a pulley puller), put the bolt back in and turn the crank until the painted marks line up on the camshaft sprockets according to the marks. If you get a bright light and get under the car, you can barely see the painted link on the crank sprocket while the pulley is off. This is the only way I can figure out how to time the car.

I was able to move the chain on the exhaust cam by one tooth, but I couldn't get enough clearance on the intake cam sprocket to move the chain there. So depending on where the chain is off, you might be able to move it without removing the timing cover, or you might not. If you post more information about what you did then we might be able to help you more.

I can't remember because I try not to work on this engine but isn't the two Z and interference engine? So you don't want to be playing with the timing chain and tensioner and the cover on and this kind of business I don't believe but it's been a while. Usually chain engines are that for a reason interference many belt engines or not.
