I have recently traded in my 2017 prius prime at a dealership. it was a great economical and comfy car for us over the last 6 years (76k/miles with average 97mi/galons overall gas/ev mode. ) But getting a 3 rd kid was rendering it less usefull (4 seater)
The battery had started to not work very well in cold weather (often starting the fuel engine at startup in our slow street and only accepting 5.7 kwh on the 'ev' reserved capacity of 0-100% charge recently (not the hybrid part), vs 6.2kwh when new). We charged it evey day after use as much as possible.
Also, i had to use a 21 xubic ft skybox for all the trips, getting 35-42 mpg overall then depending on weather.
Issues we had: 2x broken windshield that involved total recalibration of the camera. The lane centering stopped working years ago. The rear wheels toe and camber (!!!!!!! Unadjustable ) were always out of alignment. (I gave up adjusting it as it did not wear the tires noticeably -new tires every 55k miles cheaper than fixing alignment every year!)

Sold for 15.2k vs the 17k could have gotten maybe as private sale.
I recovered the sales taxes from its trade in value for the purchase of the new car.

It is replaced by a full ev with 321 miles of range.

    How many miles?

My 2017 was still delivering 30 miles of EV and +50 MPG in summer when my niece claimed it at 92,000 miles. With regard to charging, mine was pretty much always under 6 kWh. It only went higher if I had dipped into HV deep before charging or when the battery-warmer ran.

What did you replace it with?

Not sure what the op means by having to use a 21 cubic foot skybox for all the trips. Is that a big box attached to the roof of the car?

Much less efficient with 71 mpge vs the 97 mpg average of the prime...but with 3 kids, much more roomy and comfy

I used a yakima 21 cub ft skybox that really worked well on top of the prius, with universal roof bars...like i wrote earlier 35-42 mpg on the highway With that setup +/- a hitch bike holder with a stroller on it ... Lot better than a big gas suv. But not quite the 54-65 mpg of the naked roof prime.
