Hello! I have been mostly lurking around here since June or so, having decided around then to buy a Prius. I lucked into a Driftwood #9 back on July 17th, and it is a pretty cool story:

I was in the process of moving from Kentucky to Northern California, and was hoping to buy a Prius prior to my move. No luck finding one at the local Lexington, Kentucky dealers of course. I was fortunate enough to test drive one at Green's Toyota in Lexington but there was a long waiting list.

I happened to be visiting my brother in east Tennessee and we called up the local dealer -- Jay Johnson Toyota in Bristol, TN. Imagine my shock when the sales manager told me that a Driftwood #9 just showed up that morning on their manifest, and that he had just called his entire waiting list, and no one wanted that color/package!! If I wanted it, it was mine. You know my answer! It was actually my second preference color, and I wanted the #9. I gave him a deposit and waited patiently.

My Prius was built in Japan on Tuesday, July 27th and I was happy I missed a Monday build :) I got the call that she was delivered to the dealer on August 19th. Unfortunately there was a small problem ... they did in the front of the car either during loading or unloading from the boat or truck :( The dealer has been first rate through this whole process, and of course is fixing it right away. I am not totally sure what parts were damaged but apparently they are replacing a total of three pieces, two of which are kind of underneath the car. It will be ready for me this coming Tuesday.

I have scheduled a car transporter (AAAdvantage) to bring it to me in Santa Clara. The trip is over 2700 miles and it will cost $940, not too bad. By the way, the dealer charged full list with no vigorish. He is providing a temporary tag, and I will pay the tax in Cal when I register it here.

So that's my story! I expect to be driving her within 2 weeks. I guess that'll put me at almost 8 weeks from time of deposit to time of delivery. Not too shabby. I highly recommend Jay Johnson Toyota and Sales Manager Mike Felty.

I would be concerned about what was damaged, and whether the structural integrity of the car or its handling could be compromised. If it was just cosmetic components, no problem.

I had my brother take a look. It seems they "dragged" the Prius along the pavement during load or unload, resulting is "scuffing" of the parts. I don't think this could cause any structural damage. Good point though -- it did cross my mind.

    Cheers,
