Hello All, Need a new OEM, Gen 3 Hybrid battery. Do you have any recommendations, based on price? Thanks
The dealer is is enjoying a pretty reasonable battery price actually out somewhere around 1600 1440 something like that I got a shop hard look around good see you as it in stock the trick with this is you order it online get it sent to a store Don't walk into the parts department It's going to cost you $600 more dollars approximately you'll have a 1350 core charge plus the 1440 or 1600 for the battery add those together and what's going to be held on your credit card even if you bring in your battery at pickup until you're return is approved usually 24 hours that'll be held on or against the card Make sure with battery you're turning in has a silver cover on it the Toyota sticker is visible preferably unpainted not scraped all of that kind of stuff.
Toyota dealership for about $2000 plus $1350 core charge. Call the parts department of dealerships near you.
Yeah, I don't think dealers will ship these to you, so you need to call around to your local Toyota dealers and find out what the best local prices are. At least that's what my local discount dealer said. They were offering it for $1850 IIRC.
My Toyota dealer here in Pensacola just quoted me, $3247.50, and a $1350 core charge. I'm trying to get something more reasonable. I'm hoping for a OEM battery near the price you referenced. Anyone with a contact?
In Florida? No, I would suggest googling Toyota dealers near you and then calling all of their parts depts. If that doesn't work, google "Discount toyota parts," put in the part number on each website and see if they will ship. Might be a little footwork for you.
The cheapest way to replace a 3rd gen battery is by buying a 2nd gen battery and transferring the modules over to your 3rd gen case. The 28 modules are the same.
First you need to change your profile location from San Diego to the city you are located in. Calif would have far better prices in many cases. Second listen to the advice above. Don’t go or call the dealer. You will get msrp. Go online where many but not all dealers sell with a ship to store option. Shop MANY of them, prices vary widely, some throw additional discounts only in the “cart”. Otherwise shop third parties like Hometown Hybrids who buy low and sell new oem batteries installed for maybe a $650 markup or may ship. Resist any and all refurb, reconditioned / repainted factory assemblies or alternative NiMH cylindrical cell kits. Instead of 8-15 years you will get 8-15 months and questionable warranty service leading to ghosting.
Can you actually get a battery ala cart from a dealer? Will they hand you a battery "over the counter" and you hand them your core and get on your merry way? I'm always looking for accounts of people doing this, but it seems pretty rare. I feel like they will make you get a diag and insist on installing it themselves.
Anyone else having a problem with Google Maps right now? On pc or phone: Sorry, we could not calculate transit directions from "Tampa Bay, Florida, USA" to "Pensacola, Florida, USA" (Was going to mention Tampa Hybrids, bit of a drive, Google Maps is keeping mum though.)
Here is an example. Looks like the price has gone up a bit since I last looked. G9510-47062 - Drive Motor Battery Pack - 2010-2011 Toyota Prius | Lithia Toyota Parts This dealer will not let you buy it online, you have to call and get their approval to buy it.
Note that G9510-76012, which fits the 2011-2015 model years, also fits the 2010. The 2011 model year did away with the vent tubes on the battery pack, so the new pack has a casing that doesn't allow for the vent tubes to exit on the driver's side. If you wanted to retain the tubes, you would simply swap that portion of the case over while performing the transplant. The newer pack is shared with the Lexus CT200h and can therefore be purchased at both Lexus and Toyota dealerships. Raises your odds of finding a good deal. I ordered online during a promotion period, but otherwise my experience was as you described. This was at a Lexus dealership in town. Ordering online sidesteps this issue, and also usually gets you a better price than shopping OTC.
Good advice - so did you order online and they shipped it through the mail? Were there any complications doing that?
I think local pickup is the only option. You place an order either in store or online for pickup at your local dealer. It ships from the warehouse in a hulk of a crate marked 'Property of Toyota'. I think the dealer is supposed to remove it from the crate and hand it over to you, and when you turn in your core they tape up and secure its harnesses and put it back in the crate. The staff at my local dealer didn't seem very familiar with the process and just gave me the whole thing which thankfully fit in the back.
I think that's the rub. My guess is most dealerships will not take a core they didn't pull. A few people have probably been lucky. I would love to hear other testimonials of people getting batteries from the dealer though, whether shipped or not.
I have done three replacements myself that I got from the dealership. Two of my personal vehicles, one for a friend. Prices can vary from dealership. But usually they are between $2-$2700k depending on the year of your Prius. Then obviously the core charge, but they do give that back to you as long as you put the battery back in the package just like it came from. It's does come in that big crate thing, but it does fit into the back of a Tundra or a 3rd Gen Prius just fine. They will not ship it to you. My best bet would be like others have said, just call the parts department at the dealerships and shop around for prices. I wouldn't try to order online from some of these dealerships just because if something goes wrong, then that's a lot of money to be risking. Just go directly to the source (dealership) yourself. The dealership does give you a 1 year warranty. That is only because they didn't install it. That's why only one year. The OEM dealership battery is the only way to go. Other sources aren't trustworthy and you'd just be dealing with a wack-a-mole. I can't voucher for the lithium Li-Po battery that just came out a few years ago. I have not had any first had experience, so I can't say anything good or bad about it.
And if dealership installs? IIRC it’s 3 years. Other advantages: no core charge, and no quibbling or finger-pointing if anything goes awry. Any idea on cost for that? At least $500 I’m guessing.
