I'm pretty certain there is water in my gas tank
. I am hearing that the easiest way to empty the tank is pulling the fuel lines to drain the tank. Can someone please tell me where the main fuel rail is located under the hood?
    HELP PLEASE!

Really you think waters in the fuel tank of your '09 dang I've got an '09 that sits here doesn't even have a fuel cap on it now unless it sat for years or something like that with the door open in the rain highly doubtful You should be able to get a thin tube down through the tank filler neck I wouldn't think draining it from the front would be a super solid idea I wouldn't want to run the pump like that You could suck the little bit that's in the line but then trying to pull from the tank like that maybe not so good you might need a vacuum pump You're trying to pull through the existing fuel pump that's in the tank which can be done I would think sticking a small hose down into the filler neck and pulling it out that way might be the way to go like a regular siphon I'm not sure why that would not work there's also chemicals that you can put in the fuel that will dry water of course depending upon how much water is actually in the tank Why do you think there's water in your gas tank?? Does the car start at all and run really bad how much fuel is in the tank? If it's just a little bit say one or two dots fill it up with high test add a bottle of water dryer heat whatever they call it. If it runs it will only get better You're saying you have enough water in your gas at the car is not starting of course if that was the case you'd be able to undo the front fuel line get it to call for the engine to come on or wire up the fuel pump so it will pump when you connect the terminal to the battery and the fuel coming out you catching a glass stop the fuel pump take a look at the glass but it's sit in the sunlight on a table for a few minutes and see you'll see the water.

Last time I tried that on another car, there was a screen or obstruction of some sort in the filler neck. Not sure if Prius has same, but has me thinking siphoning gas is a thing of the past.

No I think a small diameter hose will go down there Not a garden hose You know like a quarter inch clear or black fuel hose.

You could always lob a couple pints out of the hose up at the fuel rail just to put it in a clear ball mason jar or something so you can see if you actually have water smell is a dead giveaway too watered down fuel smell like your Bic lighter won't even ignite it or if it will it will be almost non-existent explosion.

I've got a rigid cut piece of I don't know what this is about quarter inch diameter pipe or metal tubing I can shove this down into the tank and hear it hit the bottom of the tank if I suck on it gas comes up If I was to put a little pump on it maybe it would suck out the balance of the tank I'm standing out in the yard right now while I'm saying this this is an 08 loaded up HID fog light car but not a tourer

As a member on another automobile forum we would always get these single posts that seemed really odd and the OP would never come back. They'd also dig up really old posts and respond to them. Not saying that's the case here but it's got the early stage look.

Sorry everyone, I am new at this. My friend set this up for me to try and get some help with my car. I still cannot get it to start. I am going crazy without my car. So here is the story of what happened. I was super low on gas and had to hurry back to work from my lunch break. There isn't a ga station between my house and job. So, I grabbed a gas can at my house that was pretty full, I smelled it to make sure it was gas. I poured a little bit out to make sure it was gas again. It smelled and looked like it so I put it in my tank. I drove about 2.5 miles, my car started sputtering and the red triangle came on. I was able to get into the turn lane where it stopped. Couldn't go any further. I called for help thinking I had run out of gas. My coworker brings me a gallon, it goes in my tank. I start the. Car and go to drive off, it get me not even a block around the corner and stops again. At this point, I am on the side of the road. I try to start again, the engine is basically rumbling. I got towed back work.. My friend come to look at it. He puts more fresh fuel in it. Starts it and still, engine rumbling real bad. We leave it overnight, go back the next day, same thing. But it doesn't stay with engine rumbling. It starts , it's in ready mode, engine starts rumbling an then shuts off. At this point, my tank is full. Oh I forgot to mention that my friend checked the gas can I used ad confirmed that it wasn't gas, it was water. How the hell I a. Gas can full of water is beyond me ... no idea at all!
I put ina bottle of Heet after it sat overnight at my work, i left t for. Feew hours an when we go back to check it, same thing. Starts , engine starts rumbling and then I shuts off again... That was 1 week ago. Now when I try to start it, the ready light comes on, blinks a couple time real fast an then goes off .. I haven't tried to do anything for a Couple days now. a family member who works at a Chevy dealership was going to try and run my vin for some info but they haven't got back to me about it. This s my only transportation an need my car to get back and forth to work. Single mama who needs help.

I'm really not a one post guy. Lol

    I responded. Sorry

I'm a real person, I forgot that .my friend set this up for me to try and get advice on my car. I posted my explanation on my car below. Hoping someone can give me insight on what I can possibly do to fix it. I'm a low income single mom and definitely can't afford to take it in to a dealership.

We tried the siphon idea but nothing comes out of the filler neck. I'm told there is a screen or something in there. I also was told that removing the tank to empty it would help. But I am old there is a bladder in the tank that would make it almost impossible to do. My friend said he could drill a hole into the tank to empty it out but with the bladder , you can't just empty it out..

You can take a piece of tubing like a broken piece of brake line that's metal tubing or an alloy of metal tubing that will push through the screen or the wire at the bottom of the tank I did this above I told you I was standing there with this done in my yard bend the metal rod downward carefully so it's almost touching the ground You can apply a piece of plastic tubing suck on it until you have gas seen in the plastic clear tubing pull that off the end of the metal and let it rip whether it's going into a container or on the ground is not up to me that will drain your tank reasonably quickly with the brake line diameter in a full tank it'll probably take about 40 minutes when that stops draining the tank will pretty much be empty then you could apply real decent water dryer like from Napa heet is okay but there are others. Let that sit in the tank 20-30 minutes and then add 5 gallons of high test fuel yeah I know it doesn't make any difference in the Prius but it will help with the heat to mitigate the water any that's left quickly and still be able to burn that should get you unless you're having other engine starting problems which will show up as codes Good luck.

maybe you could disconnect the fuel line before the injectors and run the fuel pump to get it out

I think that's another option absolutely might be a little stressful to the pump but hey what the heck You can also use another pump externally to pull through the in tank pump while it's not even on We used to do this one in tank pumps for very expensive and they were on carbureted cars just to push the fuel up to the front of the car to get near a pound out of the line to feed a carburetor that was the thing in Toyota Celica's. So you can disconnect the line up front and literally use something with a vacuum generally another pump would be good and it'll pull right through the pump in the tank was it not even being on so there's always that.

Pull it almost to empty then pour 5 gallons on top of that you'll see the color change almost coming through the line then stop it and reconnect it'll be pre-primed and ready to go.
