I looked everywhere on this forum and tried a old method before realizing it was for a gen 2 prius lol.

I was planning to disassemble the seatbelt holder itself and wire the proper connections together so it tricks the computer to think its always "on". I am very tired of this stupid noise Toyota decided was a good idea to put in their newer vehicles. My gen 3 prius only has the light which i can deal with, but never the noise. Its not just Toyota, it seems all newer cars have these ridiculous safety features i never asked for, nor do i have the option to easily disable it in the settings it seems.

And hold your witty comments about "buckle up, no more chime", im not in the mood for it. The problem with the world today is everyone believes they have control over how others can live their lives. If i want to die while not wearing a seatbelt, that should be my decision that i get to make. Sometimes i wear it, sometimes i dont, but thats irrelevent to this post.

I want to know if there is a legitimate way to disable it before i waste my afternoon bruteforcing it with my electrical and mechanical skills.

hope there's an answer. they've doubled the length of time on our new hycam form the 2013. it drives me to distraction.
i couldn't even find a place to adjust the volume. maybe an obd would have access...

From the factory, your Gen 3 did have a seatbelt chime too. It is configurable, somebody had to change it from the default ON to the optional OFF.

On my 2010, I used a ScanGauge to turn off the backup beeper myself, there was a similar code to change the seatbelt chime too, though I didn't use it. For my 2012, the dealer handed me a configuration sheet that I could mark up and they would change. I picked the same settings as on the previous car, and they applied them to this 2012 before delivery.

I don't know if Toyota allowed for similar setting changes in Gen 4.

You may not like it but here it is, buckle your damn seatbelt. It's amazing how much time your spending trying to figure out how to disable something that's there to save your life. A little quote from someone I knew who's father was a lifetime California Highway Patrol officer: "I've never pulled a dead body out of a seatbelt!"
Otherwise Go online and get a seatbelt blank that fits into the seat belt receptacle they aren't the expensive

I do wear my seatbelt. But i dont need an annoying alarm to go off to remind me of it. Plus anytime im not wearing one is because im only going 10 mph for a short distance and exiting. Or other reasons that arnt as black and white which require context of which alarm is incapable of distinguishing. Whoever implemented or made it into law of the seatbelt alarm deserves to be imprisoned or shot in my honest opinion.

Why don't you just stop by a scrap yard and grab a handful of buckles. Snap them in, so you don't have to mess with anything. If you use your seat belt, pop it out and snap in your belt.

Easy-peesy - no rewiring required and reversible - when you sell the car.

Presumably your advance directive makes it clear in writing that you don't want anybody else's money to be used in putting you back together, and you have double-checked with your insurance agent to make sure you are not paying the lower wears-seat-belt rate.

Trite, and misleading. While seatbelts are highly beneficial, lots of people still die even with them.

Not at all, unless you consider actual facts unimportant. But that is a thing nowadays so maybe you do.....The point is your chances of surviving increase tremendously if your wearing it, and that's a fact. I don't care if you're only going 10 miles an hour or 110. One of the reasons I'm driving a Prius now is because I was sitting still in a parking lot and someone bounced off another vehicle into me totaling my car.

Bold of you to assume i have insurance for personal injury protection or even health insurance, i dont. Bare liability just to drive legally without being ticketed.

Got it. And all the ERs around have been notified that they're not to treat you when you can't pay?

Your trite slogan flies in the fact of actual facts. It suggests that seat belts nearly immunize vehicle occupants from crash deaths, that the number of dead selt-belted people in crashes is near zero.

While belts do very significantly increase your chances of surviving, they don't come anywhere close to assuring survival. I hear plenty of crash reports in the local news where seat belt use was not sufficient to save the victims.

Lol is trite the only word you know? Was that the word of the day on your toilet paper this morning? I don't make any suggestion other than things that you are assuming. I simply said that seat belts greatly improve your chances of surviving, which you agreed with and oh so helpfully provided proof of. Thank you for proving my point. Anything else you inferred for my comments was purely on you. Cheers✌️

I too am looking for a "solution" to this since I've started doing DD (DoorDash)... There's NO way in hell I am buckling and unbuckling 4 times for ONE delivery... And for those who cannot count: If I am driving around with my belt on to start with (that's mighty presumptuous of you) then I get an order I have to go pick up the food, so there's 1-UNBUCKLE to go in to get the food, 2-REBUCKLE when I get back to the car with the food. Which is usually going a couple miles AT MOST, where I will then have to 1-UNBUCKLE to deliver, then 2-REBUCKLE to continue "driving around" or, to the next order. So yes, it's FOUR "buckling" (or unbuckling) actions PER delivery. Which is also why some jurisdictions have or had laws exempting seat belt use from certain delivery drivers (usually who don't exceed a certain speed). But that's not good enough for me. Simply put, I knew some of you would WHINE despite the OP ASKING PEOPLE NOT TO... But I agree with him wholeheartedly; it's NONE of your ******* business if I'm wearing a seat belt or not! Or if or why I want to "disable" the stupid "alarm" letting me know I'm not wearing it (like HELLO, I am the one driving, I KNOW I'm not wearing it - NO need to "alarm" me)!

First thing that came to mind was going to a "bone yard" and literally cutting a "donor" out of a car there. Though I just moved so IDK if there are even any junk yards around me >.<

Interesting to know there's actually a scan tool that may be able to disable it. Though I don't know anyone with one and I'm surely not buying one just for this purpose!

Maybe one of those "gimmick" alarm stoppers on eBay/random internet for like $5. I may end up going that route!

    It would work, but I wouldn't recommend it, do the same thing the Chicago police got caught doing; CUT the buckle out of your backseat to click into the front to stop the alarm(s) {though this would be good to do from a bone yard car for your own}

There's another obvious, but I don't want to do it because I figure it would ruin that mechanism that causes the seat belt to "auto retract" - would be to just click it in behind you! But again, I feel that may ruin the auto retracting, eventually. Not to mention this "RUINS" your chance of "slipping it on" IF pulled over! As where other methods may permit you a "chance" to slip it on before you wind up ticketed for not wearing it. (this is usually the ONLY reason I ever have a belt "properly" "on", I slip it on when getting pulled over LOL and take it right back off after the stop ~ or of course I've used the excuse that "I did have it on but I took it off so I could access my wallet for my DL for you"; which has only about a 50/50 chance of working!)

Maybe seeing if the passenger side one will stretch far enough across, at least for while I'm doing DD...

So, really; there are "tons" of potential "options" here I do guess. I do wish there were more LIBERTARIANS here, rather than those DICTATORS who were like "JUST WEAR YOUR BELT"; like, NO - I believe in this thing called FREEDOM. So, you're FREE to actually wear yours. And guess what; I am FREE to NOT wear mine ~ that's MY choice (it doesn't affect you in ANY way shape or form)...

Actually, I've defeated the seat belt alarm in two ways:
    1. Use the $5 "seat belt extender. This option works the best.
    2. Use a cellphone, Dr. Prius App, and an OSB Bluetooth dongle to shut off the seat belt alarm. This let's the alarm beep a few times when the car is powered up, but shuts down the "nagging" beeps after the car is moving. An advantage is that you can also shut off the continuous beeping in reverse gear. Be sure the bluetooth-OSB2 dongle you buy has at least 2 stacked printed circuit boards inside the device. Lots of fake Chinese knock offs that don't work are out there.

    So, let freedom ring! LOL
