I know this topic has probably been posted before and if so, I apologize. My 2012 Prius C made it to 310,000 miles before the hybrid batteries put me down. After a lot of study I decided to go after market batteries in September. I have been extremely happy with them but yesterday, I got the "Check Hybrid System. Stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately" message on the dash. My question is, can I drive the vehicle to a Toyota dealer? I still have warranty on the replacement batteries and have called them but I got them from a firm in Memphis (Hybrid Restoration) and we have had a severe snow/ice storm and they are not able to get to their office yet.

I've done some searching and found that it could possibly be a bad cell. Also, I saw where it could be the result of cold weather (0 degrees this past Tuesday night). If a bad cell, that would be covered under my warranty which is 18 months. Anybody have any information that might be of help?

    Thanks,

Take the car to an auto parts store that reads your trouble codes for free and then come back and report what was found.

Edit: Did you get the brakes fixed after you created this thread on Dec 1, 2023? https://priuschat.com/index.php?threads/245303/

Thanks for the reply. I will take it to my parts store. No. I haven't replaced the anti-lock brake pump yet. I probably haven't put 100 miles on it since Dec. 1st. I found a used one that has been tested for about 250.00 (Used Part Nation) as opposed to the dealership's 3,500.00 and have a retired Toyota technician that is going to install it for me if I can get this current problem resolved.

Wow, I hope you get it worked out! You're still driving a 2012 Prius c w/over 300k miles? That is sweet.

I'm researching the Prius c because I may be buying one in a few days.
I'm looking at a 2014 Prius c Four w/ 58k miles. Super nice condition. Paint finish looks new. It's had just owner who kept it very clean inside & out. Regular 5k mile maintenance w/records. No accidents. Steering is still super tight & responsive.

I test drove it for about 40 minutes. 20 mins on the interstate got 48 mpg. 20 mins on city streets & county roads got 54 mpg. I know it's 10 yrs old but it seriously looks excellent, drives great & was driven <6k mi per year.

Do you think it would be a reliable daily driver for a few years? I had a 2012 Prius Plug-in from 175k til 306k & a 2017 Three Touring from 48k til 130k when it was totaled in Feb. Nothing but regular maintenance, brakes, tires & one wheel bearing on the combined 213k miles so I'm sold on the Prius’ reliability. All the car review sites give the Prius c nearly as good reliability scores,

What do ya think? And, again good luck with your 2012!

    Thanks!

Well that depends, do you know if the hybrid battery has been replaced on the Prius C you are looking to buy?
