That’s awesome for you and a great strategy where you’ve got vehicles moving! Here in Canada, I’ve been told that because a few provinces have additional incentives beyond the federal rebate of $5k on the Prime, those areas get way more allocations to feed the demand (British Columbia and Quebec). Where I am in Ontario, no such luck so a Prius and more importantly a Prime is a unicorn. I do get the flexibility piece though. I was willing to wait for my exact config and just so happens that it’s now being built. As far as options here, the solar roof isn’t an option (but we do get the yellow colour that isn’t available in the US) but it adds so little juice in reality, not sure it’s worth it. I could also live without the park assist. I am looking forward to the digital rear view camera though given what I’ve seen online and was able to sit in a ‘23 non Prime that a dealership employee already had when ordering. Seems like that may be of benefit.

As far as prep goes…. Have you been messaging with my significant other? I’ve already started making my way through the manual and think I’ve run out of videos on YouTube in terms of reviews, views and how-to’s. My wife just rolls her eyes LoL!

I put myself on the list in december and was told that the list was 1 year to 2 year. I was hoping to get a car around fall where financially it would be better for me because my house loan will be finished this summer. My 2010 prius is rusting so i am afraid is might break before that. The dealer said to me today that they were allocated 2 cars and that it does not happen often. How much is it a trick to sell or true?

Paid MSRP dealer honored 2023 price saved me$130 had to ask that I not be charged 2024 price as they originally said 5-6 months not really impressed by dealer sales staff so far but smaller dealer so I think they will be ok if I need to bring it in for any warranty issues

ps won’t let me upload a file (picture) from my phone????

I waited about six weeks to get my 2024 XLE. The only options are 12.4” multimedia display, digital key, and all weather mats and cargo liner. The dealer already had it on order. I paid MSRP. Absolutely love this car!

    Ordered ours late November 2022.

Canada, SE prime. Dealer said next week on Saturday. So unsure if that's this week or next, since in my mind Saturday was last week :p

Put a deposit down for a Prime on May 22, 2022. Dealer says it is expected first week of February, 2024.

:) Yep, that was me (and my wife) too! Kinda worried I might wear out YouTube!

Admittedly, now that I've had the car a while it would be a good time to re-read the manuals now that it isn't theory anymore.

Saw a 2024 Prime XSE on Autotrader in December 2023. It was inbound to a local dealer in Alabama. Called them, Salesman said could hold for $500 deposit. Cost: MSRP, no upcharge.

Talked to the boss. She said OK, so put deposit down. Salesman said due in 2-3 weeks. Gave me ETA on 1/17/24 - 1/22/24.
They texted me on 1/12, said same ETA. Wired them payment for total OTD.

Text on 1/15, same ETA. Text on 1/19, on the ground at dealership. picked up on 1/22/24.

One key fob with car. I’ve since tinted windows, debadged the rear, Simonized (yes, I’m old fashioned). Starting process of setting all programmable settings to my preferences. That’s going to take a while!

Car now has 51 miles on odometer.

I hope people understand that Toyota doesn't have a real custom ordering process. It's more a wishlist than anything.

I did not get on too many lists. I was looking for a very specific model last summer, and gave up eventually. My wife still had neither sat in or drove the model even remotely similar to the car that I was looking for. The trade in value of my 2017 Prime Advanced had dropped almost $10,000 since late 2022. The idea of having a "build it" function on the web site is just plain bait and switch since they let you specify options (like solar roof) that they will not be supplying on cars in this region. By the end of summer I gave up.

Then the first week of January (2024) I started watching the 2024 models as they started to show up at the local dealers. I have 20 or so dealers within a 1 hour drive of my house. The Toyota "SMARTPATH" software found several cars available nearby. It looked like most dealers had at least one spare Prius Prime on the lot each week.

Using that information, I drove to the local dealer. They had dropped the unnecessary $10K "dealer markup" but it was still expensive. He had a car that was close to what I wanted. I took it on a 45 minute test drive by myself. City, Freeway and mountains are within a few miles. I added about 20 miles to the odometer.

I drove it home 4 hours later. Jan 17th, if I remember correctly. It was missing a few features that I would have wanted, but it's quite pleasant to drive. We've been to San Diego and back already. :)

In Canada we don't have options beyond model level and colour.

Any and all additional add ons are dealer-side accessories like cargo mats, dash cams, PPF, door sill protectors etc.

Really simplifies the whole process. And even then, if a place isn't allocated the colour you want, if the model shows up and the first person on the list denies it, they're gonna call the next person on the list and offer it to them for sure. They've super streamlined it here.

Even the regular non-prime prius has only 2 versions. A base and a limited, both e-AWD. And the only other options again are paint colour and dealer accessories.

Ordered Prius Prime in April 2023 from Santa Fe, NM dealer. In December the salesman told that Toyota is not shipping this model to New Mexico, and put me in touch with a dealer 250 miles away that had my model, trim, and color on order, but not yet sold. Picked up the car December 30, 2023. Prius Prime SE, gray, minimal accessories.

Hey Leo hope yours has arrived!

Since getting mine a little over a week ago I've seen 3 or 4 other 24 primes in the west end of the city. When going to work downtown I've seen a lot of very obviously new Toyotas with super fresh paint jobs, stock tires etc. many rav4s, corollas, and a couple prii that I had never seen driving around even just 2 months ago.

It seems like Canadian stock of Toyota's is finally coming through. Dealer even had showroom cars and a nearly full lot, with some a full lineup of cars with attached dealer plates.

I think supply issues are improving finally up here!

I finally was able to sit in a Prius. Maybe supply is improving here too. I saw on the Toyota inventory website that a local dealer had a couple Prius withoutt the usual fine print underneath (in delivery, or being built). So I went over there, and they had one on the lot. It was already sold, but I was able to sit in it, turn it on, etc. but not drive it. I had absolutely no problem seeing the display over the steering wheel (I'm 5'10", or 180 cm). I was surprised though how small the back window was when looking in the rear view mirror. You definitely would need to rely on the backup camera when reversing.

Anecdotal but here in Vancouver, a car sharing service is getting a lot of gen 5 cars in recent weeks. They only had a few last summer, and their entire fleet is Prius (prev gens and gen 5), so they must have ordered early.

Started searching in the Fall of 22. None of the local dealers (Ohio) even heard of the gen 5, let alone felt they could get one. Got on a "list" on 2 different dealers. One worked with me quite a bit over the next year trying to see where they were all going and which options seemed to be the most popular. I finally saw several in the Buffalo, NY area and asked my dealer if they could work out some sort of dealer trade. A few phone calls later and my red 2024 XSE Prime was on the way. I picked it up last weekend. It was a very long wait, but certainly worth it.

Put a deposit down in May of 2023, my car is now on a vessel headed to the states and is due at the dealership by the end of March. Can't wait!
