I have purchased the FRAM CF9846A cabin air filter for the past few years. Each previous air filter had a thin rim around it that was about 3 or 4 sheets of paper thick.

Here is an example of what it used to look like : Link

This year, I purchased the same part number and even though the FRAM site says it fits my 2009 Prius,
it looks very different from previous years. It is now a solid square shape with no thin rim.

Here is what I received this year: Link

Does the cabin air filter take more than one shaped filter? Any use this type of cabin air filter before?

My cabin filters has always been the second one you posted. I think it's the same as my old Prius C. I know I used a left over Prius C engine air filter in my Prime. The dimensions was the same and dropped right in. Both my old Prius C and Prime was bought brand new from the dealership and they both had that second filter you posted; when I replaced them.

    Hope this helps

All of my cabin air filters for my generation twos look like the second photograph too but now they're blue pleaded polyester material maybe something is not paper. The upper thing I've never seen before I'll try to see if I can find that it looks like something that would lay on top of the filter that you put in the plastic tray first which would be number two of your pictures and then this number one thing you have would lay on top of the number two picture It seems just that one thing in the number one picture going into the tray would leave you a I don't know a half inch gap or a quarter inch gap this first picture filter is much thinner it looks like then the box filter and picture number two. I just bought the blue ones the other day to put in two new generation twos and they fit right in they would be as picture number two but they're blue. Made by fram

The first photo is identical to what you get from Toyota for a Gen 2. Many aftermarket models are identical to the second photo, but there are also aftermarket ones like the first. Either one works.

This is the most recent from Toyota, even superceding the 87139-47010 and it matches the first photo

Hell you could lay filter material from the HVAC supply store and trim it to the size of the tray in any of these Prius cabin filters You can buy charcoal flavored and smelly scented flavored packets to put on top of the media you buy and Christmas time you can buy cinnamon and apple flavored smelling stuff and all it could never end. You can buy some really wild filter material out there That's about the same thickness as the box that's in there now.

I don't think the 87139-07010 fits the Gen 2 Prius.
This is the Gen 2 part number 87139-47010 and 87139-47020 now being used and the 47010 says it's been replaced by the 87139-47010-83, which matches the first photo....so many choices...
