My prius is covered in dents, dashboard is out and doesnt work 95 percent of the time, interior is in rough condition, its been run out of gas more than a couple times. the other day I think it ran out of gas and i was able to limp it to a pump, only for it not to start again afterwards. A few days later I was able to get it to start while cleaning it. its got over 200k miles on it. Im wondering how I can sell it as I already got a new car. Im hoping for at least or around $1k

Are you sure you want to sell it? It sounds like a gem! :)

    Love the honesty!

Put it on the Facebook marketplace for $2,500 The tards will come out of the woodwork to buy it Just because you put it there not that they're going to do anything with it or anything's going to happen they'll just come to buy it to say they bought it that is what's happening today It is really effing weird I mean really weird.

Just sold an ugly but decent one on FB, the buyers on this app are not very reliable, or in some cases I suspect even real. In a few weeks I had over 700 views, a hundred saves, a hundred messages and 4 people who actually showed up. So many responses were from "people" with no info on their profile which was less than a few months old. Other fake interest types offered crazy low numbers or were over 1000 miles away and in other countries in many cases. In the end a local guy with a real profile set an appointment the next day and bought it. So FB does work but there are so many false starts. My strategy is to block anyone who replies and is over 100 miles away or has a profile that looks sketchy. That way I am not wasting my time on them.
For the OP, list it at 1000 and state in the ad that offers will be ignored. First response can be " when do you want to see it" which cuts to the bottom line. Meet in a public place with cameras, hope it works out for you

when selling cars in FB marketplace make sure to do all the necessary paperwork. Which means YOU HAVE TO FILL UP THE TITLE with your name, date and signature and the buyer's. You also have to notify DMV that you sold the vehicle (transfer of sale notice) and no longer responsible for it. If they request you to not fill it up then it's up to you because they have the intention to resell it (which is curbstoning) and make a profit. You could be in trouble too if the buyer didn't register it and drive it around with no registration, no license plates, not paying parking and no insurance. How did I know this? It happened to me.

I sold my Volvo S80 to a kid, he test drove it and bought it instantly. I just gave him the title not filled up, not even a bill of sale. 9 months later I got a court summons for parking tickets and no license plates/registration. Since it's officially registered to me I have to appear in court virtually (this was covid period) I told the court that I'm not guilty and not the one responsible for it. The judge threw the case and I just paid $30 for the court processing instead of 3 days of parking tickets and other charges. I have to go the DMV to explain my situation and it's tough because the guy was using an alias in FB. He was so irate when I told him about the issue and never responded back, what I did was send messages to his friends in FB and he even got mad because his friends were thinking that he did something illegal.

I even sold my Jeep Liberty to a couple before and didn't realized that they have a small used car lot near our area. I was surprised to see my Jeep with a sticker price of $4500 (I sold it to them for $2500) and they didn't even replaced the tires, fix the dent and replaced the front driveshaft (advertised it as 4x4) Shady people...

That pretty much sums it up. My son tried to sell a Tacoma in good shape (other than one of the rear doors having been repainted badly, there was literally nothing visibly wrong with it, and it ran great) about a year ago on FB and had nothing but trouble. Low ball offers, people who made appointments to see it but never showed up, people who did show up but never called again, and so forth. Eventually I listed it for him on the market site where I used to work and the one person who replied followed through and bought it.

I have found that selling to CarMax, if they will take it, is a good way to go. I sold two cars to them, an Accord that was 3 years old at the time and a 2003 Civic Hybrid, which ran, but whose pack was about to give up the ghost. They offered more for the Accord than the several other car dealers I had contacted, and amazingly, they bought the Civic for $1k when I was pretty sure I was going to have to send it straight to a junkyard. Selling to them is about as painless a car transaction as I have ever experienced. (This assumes you have the pink slip and all is in order.)

It really depends on your comfort level, Carmax is a little bit better (or same) than the dealership with the trade-in value. Note that both will offer you trade in value which is really losing a lot of money compared to private party, but that's at the expense of dealing with tire-kickers, no-shows, ghosts, low-ballers and bots. If you could deal with those then you'll have extra money but if you just want to get rid of the car immediately then Carmax or dealership/shop is the way to go.
