    2008 Prius with 250K miles.
We are getting a weird brmppprmpp noise every time we go over small bumps.
I'm not sure if this is the strut, engine mount, something else.

I have not heard this on my 2009 with 300K, or any other Prius.

I have a 65 second video with the noise:

The car drives fine, just the weird noise, it has been this way for a few months now.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Sure sounds like a bad strut or sway bar link. When was the last time you replaced those?

You should be able to kind of duplicate that with the front wheels lightly off the ground like say about an inch both of them and the long metal digging or pry bar I use a digging bar It's solid iron I put it under the front tire and then gently bounce the metal bar up and let it down but do it relatively quickly like your pumping the jack on a floor jack and quickly and see if you can duplicate the similar noise and then if that works then you kneel down on the ground while your friend does the lifting sometimes you can do the lifting on the ground if the bar is not really too heavy but a digging bar is quite heavy and then you'll be able to look while they're bouncing the wheel up and down then go do the other side.

    I tried that, using a 3' long 2x6 and a 2x4 block.
Test 1 both sides with car jacked up tire 3" off the ground. Bounced on the 2x6 and could not recreate the sound on either side.
Test 2 both sided with tire on 2x6 car NOT supported by jack, could not recreate the sound on either side.

Put the car on ramps, when underneath could not seem to find anything that was loose or would rattle.

    Crazy.... I will keep digging.
    Keep the suggestions coming.

    Thanks

    They are original.
    Sway bar seems OK.
Struts are old, but I can't replicate the sound when manually pushing on the struts. I'm not ruling the struts out, just can't replicate the sound yet.

    Thanks.

If you're jacking up with an iron bar a 2x6 will bend before it actually starts smacking things enough to make things happen generally speaking lumber dimensional lumbar is not ideal unless you can get it up under the tire on its side The board that is the part that doesn't deflect if it's flat you're bending the board before you lift the tire practically That's why I generally use something like a digging bar it can make serious lift movements on the car if you're not careful in the cars too high you can tilt it right off the jack if you're afraid of that lift the one side at a time you're working on and power up and down on that wheel that's up then you have no risk of anything happening pretty much but you really have to be lifting up and down on that thing You got to realize you're lifting up on a spring that's made to hold up you know 900 to $1,100 lb or something

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I will try the iron bar.
It's going to be a week or so before I can test it out but will report on the test.
