I have a 2011 Prius and on January 20th of this year, this loud hum noise started http://link.www.ridesharedriver.blog/Prius_hum_noise. That is from a mic on the "Shotgun seat" While I am driving on Interstate 275 in Tampa, FL. The noise is very loud in the car. When I get over to the left or make a left turn the noise goes away. Not on a right turn though Also, if you view the videos on my YouTube channel from before and after January 20th, 2024 you can also hear the noise. What do you think?

    Thanks,

Wheel bearing possibly Is anybody jacked the car up and put it on stands so it doesn't fall off the jack and then spin the wheels straight ahead like drive the car in the air It's pretty common in shops actually maybe not for the folks at home. I forgot to even remember what your mileage is but for this kind of vehicle this year model with planned obsolescence and full swing for Toyota after 2010 I would say be looking at your wheel bearings they got pretty cheap in these model years the wheel bearings that is and they tend to be needing replacement more often That's something to look at for sure.

Sounds like your left cv joint is bad. Check if you boot is torn and it lost
    all the grease.
Stop the car, in a parking lot, turn the wheel all the way to the right, slowly
excellerate, I'll bet it knocks. Do the same to the left, it doesn't knock.

The Wheel Bearings have been replaced, in the back twice now. I will check it out though!
There are 543,000 miles on my car. The maintenance log at http://www.ridesharedriver.blog is pretty detailed. It has everything I have ever done to the car since I purchased it in 2016.

    Thanks for the reply!

Are you writing about the cv joints being replaced?
With Toyota ones, or after market?

Did you do what I suggested in post #3?

Did you get a lifetime warranty on the axels????
If so, have them send you a replacement.

CV joints typically make a clicking sound when failing.

I would suspect a front wheel bearing even though all front and rear were replaced at 371k.

Your back wheel bearings failed again at 494k so it is possible your aftermarket fronts are going now at 543k.

Many aftermarket bearings fail in 100k.

(By the way, your log has long portions duplicated)

Almost certainly a wheel bearing. Rears are easy to check but fronts are hard to tell with the axle installed. The only way to be sure is to separate it from the axle and spin it. In my opinion, the hardest part of the job for most home mechanics is removing the axle nut. You need some serious leverage for the 160 ft-lb axle nut even after punching out the divot in the nut. You can get a hub overnight from Amazon for around $50 or about $110 locally. This guy's video goes step by step through changing a Gen 3 front hub and is much simpler than the procedure in the manual.

There is no sense in putting in cheap hubs. They will not last!
TRQ used to have good parts, not any longer. I bought some, front and rear.
They only lasted 3-4000 miles. I think they forgot to put grease in them, or used light grease.

Bought timken for the rear, and moog for the front, well over 150,000 miles ago....
