hyundai builds beter highway mpg hybrids and focuses on aerodynamics more. but they tend to be very anti awd unlike toyota

its funny telling toyota dealers when negotiating that im taking a gas mileage hit when switching to a prius

Interesting. Didn't know that. What's the high mpg for the Hyundai?

I know one of the 2024 Prius trims gets 57 mpg combined. The AWD versions of course gets less.

the hyundai ioniq hybrid gets 59 combined. 58 city and 60 on the highway. so boosting to the 91 i get with my aeromods wasnt too hard when 60 highway was the baseline epa

What about the Hyundai plug-in ... Does it get better gas mileage? It's battery ev is only 29 or 30 MI making you think it's lighter which should give better gas mpg.

I looked that up. It's got a smaller battery at 8.9 kwh, so 32 miles on EV mode is actually ok.

Fuel Economy of the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid

MPGe is 119, 52 mpg on HV mode.

The RX I drive has a 18 kwh battery and does around 37 miles on EV. I've stretched that to 46 miles. Heavier car I assume, and MPG on HV mode is only 36 or so (though I've stretched that into the 40+ and even 50+ ranges)

There is one dealership a distance from me that has started discounting. I called to ask what was up with the car and they told me if a Prius arrives and isn’t purchased right away it’s marked down. Glad to hear you are seeing an increase in inventory. Still no silver XLE for me yet.

I think a parallel hybrid with traditional transmission can result in a more favorable gear ratio for highway speeds than an eCVT. The Ioniq's thermal efficiency and aerodynamics is essentially the same as the Prius.

It's great that Prius has come so far with its efficiency, power, EV/gas fuel use, handling & style. Looking forward to Toyota implementing these features in a pickup someday - as that body configuration is the worst at efficient use of fuel.

Honestly, when he said they had one in the list that was what I wanted coming in 2 months, I didn't care if it was refundable. Everyone else was saying wait list of 6-12 months and I was tired arguing with other dealers about their "convenience" fee. This is in all probability my last car (I'm 77 and I drive cars until there is a good reason to sell them) and I wanted what I wanted this time. That is totally out of character for me. I'm normally very careful and conservative with my money, but I fell in love with the gen 5 when I saw an ad on TV and then looked it up on Youtube.

Cracks me up that people insist on brand new when you can pick up a custom color like pearl white with a couple thousand miles on it for $28k

2023 Toyota Prius LE | eBay

That's how we avoided ripoff pricing when we bought our prius.

I bought the Prime used, and looks like it was a decent deal even compared to this Cali LE HEV. Had to drive 200 miles and hope the dealer wouldn't pull something, but worth it. Southeast Toyota Distributors are a bane for Toyota reputation on this side of the country with insane markups and crap HEV/PHEV inventory.

It's probably fine, but I'd want to see the oil change history on that car before buying. 30k miles in 6-12 months of ownership? Red flag, though not necessarily a deal-breaking one if maintenance was kept up with.

How is this a good deal? It is $28,899.00, and the new 2023 is only $176 higher.

Build your own Toyota | Toyota configurator

On top of that, it is a model year older, decreasing its resale value, and you will be the second owner, further decreasing its resale value, and you will pay a lot more in loan interest, further increasing the cost. It is not to mention that the owner probably didn't break it in properly, decreasing its fuel efficiency and longevity, and it may even have been abused. So, no, this is not a good price at all. Perhaps it would be a good price if it were $23,000.

And I missed the 30k miles. My 2021 has only 30k miles. You said a couple of thousand miles. LOL KBB trade-in and private-party values for this car around $24k and $26k, respectively.

There is a huge inventory in Southern California at the moment, especially for Prius XLE and Prius Prime XSE Premium (over 100 of the latter within 50 miles). I don't know why people would spend over $40k on a Prius; so, the dealer discounts must be imminent if not already happening.

I see 17 silver XLE AWDs in your area. I would call all of them and get one.

    my bad.
Mobile browser showed 2,943 as mileage. (It left off the last digit) at which point it would have been a good deal.

According to allocation sheets, I count around 200 in the entire state of CA for XSE Premium, BUT more than half of those are just allocations, and I assume some of the ones in freight might be presold.

Here in Central FL, NONE of the huge dealerships within 1 hour around me have current in stock...they list it, but they are all in build phase or in transit.

I am in the Prius FB groups, and some people have waited months to get their Prius Prime (though they may have wanted a specific color combo)

But yes, CA has a huge inventory of everything.

When I was hunting around for an RX450h+ of a specific color, I noticed CA was the only state where dealers were offering discounts on MSRP, especially the Cerritos dealership. Everywhere else was MSRP or marked up (in Maryland it was all the way up by $8k or more!)

I was gonna have it shipped, but the shipping fee negated any savings, plus the 11% (?) sales tax.

I bought new. I think it's because I'm the type who wants to keep the car as long as possible, and I want to be first owner. That car becomes fully mine, and no one else's until (and if) I decide to sell it.

And 153 of those 200 California XSE Premiums are within 100 miles of my Southern California Zip code.

Longo Toyota had a thousand-plus-long waiting list for the XSE Premium—perhaps that's why Toyota is shipping them here.
