I saw in my Toyota app there is a safety recall on the rear doors. 2023 Prius Prime XSE. Anybody else see this in their app?

Lol... Toyota always says that the world is not ready for more than hybrids and EV technology will fail to be profitable. But in reality the only thing that's failing is Toyota's ability to build cars that actually allow the doors to stay closed because, much like Boeing, profits are more important and their effort to save money on door stuff is backfiring real bad. How profitable is that?

Just checked my app and yes, that safety recall shows up as well. Looks like I have to be careful and hope my rear doors don’t open while I’m on the road until 3rd quarter 2024 :whistle:

With the price you had to pay, seems like letting it get wet would be a bad investment? Maybe just keep it in the garage if there's rain in the forecast?

Surprisingly had a lot of rain this year in the region where I live, luckily no issues with the rear doors as of yet. I also am fortunate to have my car parked in a garage when I’m home, so win-win I guess.

The recall notice showed up in the Health tab of the Toyota app for my 2023 non-Prime Prius Limited.

In reality, quite a significant amount of people died already because doors of Teslas could not opened during emergencies... either from inside or from ourside (first responders).

Of course we all expect more from Toyota than from Tesla - I guess with the "special" door handles in the P5 Toyota left its comfort zone and failed. At least its not a death trap.

I see it for my 2024 Prime XSE. Seeing this on the app gives me some hope that it'll notify me of the availability of the 2nd key fob some day

One issue with the Teslas is the use of the laminated glass on the doors, which is something higher trim Prius have.

My 2013 Sonic had rear door handles like the gen5. The C-HR might even use them. If that is going outside their comfort zone, we are lucky Toyota isn't still using just port injection.

24LE here, same notice. Hope to schedule a maintenance when the recall is ready. Wondering if they’ll give me a loaner.

I just got this alert as well. Surprisingly the NHTSA doesn't show a recall or complaints so I assume Toyota found this on their own. According to Bloomberg they've actually stopped production of Prius Prime's because of this and Corollas have previously been halted! Good for Toyota to take action proactively.

Taking a look at my own door the electronic switch is mounted behind the plate and the switch along with the well it sits in angles slightly downward so water can collect there. Seems like there's enough room there that they could have given it an upward angle instead.

Teslas also have an electronic door opener but that button is mounted on the dry side of the door so aren't subject to such issues. All Teslas have manual interior releases which will break the glass if necessary. The only fatality I'm aware of with a Tesla door not opening is where a car was submerged and in that circumstance water pressure will prevent any car door from opening. You have to immediately roll down a window if you ever get into water before the electrical system shorts out. What's with all the Tesla hate? It's like hating your older more successful sibling - doesn't make you look good.

No notice in my app yet, probably a Toyota Canada delay. Once the fix becomes available I'll wait a month or two until some other guinea pig owners have brought their cars in for the techs to learn the repair on lol

What happens if you engage the child safety locks? Will that prevent the door from opening while in motion?

The Toyota CH-R is slightly different as the retractable doorhandles have still a manual release I think. EDIT: They work without power as well.

The button instead of mechanical handle was a silly idea to start with. More expensive and apparently more prone to failures.

Appearing in my app now. Also says no remedy yet available and estimated 3rd quarter 2024.

Per instructions, we are to keep the doors locked while driving. It says to keep feature
enabled - how to navigate to this area?
