Does the "hybrid control computer" go by another name?

I hope you’re right! But the hybrid control ECU goes under the dashboard, not under the backseat with the battery.

Don't worry about the hybrid control ECU right now for the reasons already mentioned in previous posts (by TMR-JWAP). In all likelihood, once the battery is swapped by Carall all codes will be gone.

A fuse that supplies power to any one of those previously mentioned ECUs will cause Uxxxx codes. I'm not saying that's it but that a more simple thing with a simple solution could be it. In any case, your battery is what is the immediate focus.

If you are really worried, speak to Carall and ask whether he can bring a hybrid control ECU, if he has one, just in case. In all likelihood, he won't just have one lying around because they fail so infrequently.

Here's a ridiculous way to think about it.

I've never had any previous problems with my brain. I'm walking into the kitchen in the dark at 2 am, and stub my toe, breaking it. The pain is so great, I pass out. Do I need to fix my brain or my toe? It would be extremely unlikely that I would break a toe and have brain failure at the same exact time. Now, after fixing my toe, if my brain keeps acting stupid, maybe I need to replace it also.

The HV ECU is sometimes referred to as the HV Control ECU and could probably be referred to as the Hybrid Control ECU. The HV ECU is the Master Brain of the Prius. It recieves signals from all the other ECUs/Components and directs these ECUs/Components telling them what to do... in effect controlling the vehicle and the Hybrid System in it's entirety:

The Description of the HV ECU is sometimes referred to as the HV Control ECU and shows that it is involved with receiving signals from or controlling every part of the Hybrid System in some way shape or form. Look at how often the HV ECU is referred to in the various descriptions below:

The HV in all those is an abbreviation for hybrid vehicle which makes more sense in this context. It does not mean high voltage as most people assume which is understandable given that is more widely used in other areas.

So in your analogy, your brain is the ECU and your toe is the battery, and only the toe needs attention?

    Thanks for all these diagrams!

The mechanic at the dealership said basically the same thing; ie, that I'd know if I need a new ECU after the battery is switched out. It's only because Carall is coming from 2 hours away and bringing the ECU with him that I wanted to try to get it figured out in advance, but apparently not possible to do.

I'm grateful to you and the other members here who have been so generous with your time and knowledge in helping me get this figured out. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Carall said he has TWELVE Gen 2 Priuses that he uses for parts, so he's got it -- he's got everything.
