Are you telling us that a person should be 20 years old before he reads anything about sexuality?

    So that's it.

    True, he declares.

The verdict has been rendered upon the personal sexual expression of every human being, ever. "Once you commit (and I choose that word carefully) a homosexual act, you are resigned to being a homosexual."

The master of black and white has spoken; sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Ahhh, if only it was illegal to be gay! Then we Queers could be arrested...and we could *finally* have the opportunity to pay our debt to society (that is, unless we know a cop who'll let us off 'cause we're friends...but not friends in THAT way, of course).

Why not "in that way"? If 10% of the population is gay, as the gay pride movement sometimes tells us, then there's a one in ten chance that the cop who gives you the "friend" card is gay. But if this new bunch is right, and only 10% is hetero, then there's a 9 out of 10 chance the cop is either gay or bi, and open to whatever might come along.

For those who may not know what intersexed is:
    From wikpedia.
An intersexual or intersex person (or organism of any unisexual species) is one who is born with genitalia and/or secondary sex characteristics determined as neither exclusively male nor female, or which combine features of the male and female sexes. The terms hermaphrodite and pseudohermaphrodite, introduced in the 19th century, are now considered antiquated, misleading and stigmatizing, and patient advocates call for these terms to be abandoned [1]. The phrase "ambiguous genitalia" refers specifically to genital appearance, but not all intersex conditions result in atypical genital appearance [2]

There is currently a move by some activists to eliminate the term "intersex" in medical usage, replacing it with "Disorders of Sex Development" (DSD) in order to avoid conflating anatomy with identity. [3]

(In laymans terms intersexed is a woman with a saddle horn or an extra handle if you will.)

    So, guys, what's the verdict?

Is experimentation with a member of the same sex evidence of homosexuality? Even once?

Because if you say "yes" then that "only 10% are heterosexual" theory may be correct!

(Why does this argument remind me of the way they used to declare that a white person was an African-American if they had a single drop of African-American blood?)

    fshagan~

I personally do not feel that experimentation with a member of the same sex, makes you a homosexual.
After a person has gone through the experimentation phase and the person makes the CHOICE of whether or not to stay straight or become gay or they may want to dabble with both sexualities and then they would become bi-sexual.. ;)

No, I don't think it is. You know how, if you're hetero, you're just kind of 'automatically' hetero (i.e., you don't wake up every morning wondering if you're hetero or not...if you want to be attracted to a man or woman, etc.)...?

Well, that's true with homosexuals, too...(actually, I'm bi, but I think I'm safe in saying this)...it's like, you just *know.*

You either are aroused, or you're not. Conversely, you're either repulsed by the idea or you're not.

I would think that, for men, an erection or lack thereof, would be a good indicator (assuming that there are no physiological issues, of course).

I think that it's how you feel about yourself (primarily, at least, and not your actions, at least as far as sexuality goes) that make you what you are. I know some gay men who will *not* have intimate relations with men for religious reasons...but they identify as gay nonetheless.

    That's just one (bisexual's) opinion.

P.S....I'm not sure, in my case, I'd refer to myself as a "dabbler..."

Yep, you pretty much summed up my point. I know several gay people who, for religious reasons, do not have sex but still identify themselves as gay. One has a platonic relationship that is very rewarding for her socially, but is "openly platonic". Its good that society can be accepting of that (well, at least we are around here). From my frame of reference, you know your orientation and you don't have to worry too much about individual acts that may or may not have happened! ;)

But getting back to the book, and the assertion that it is claiming, as fact, that only 10% of the population is heterosexual:

    1. It does not say that. It uses the word "theory" to describe that idea.
    2. The context is that the article is (supposedly) written by a young teen in a "dear diary" format who has had a "homosexual experience" with a girlfriend during sexual experimentation, and
    3. The young teen is saying that it doesn't mean she is gay, and is forever consigned to that preference.

One of the things that drives me crazy in these "gotcha" quotes that advocacy groups use is that they always miss the context of the statement. When you pull it out of context, and restate it, the meaning is changed completely. Its good to incite the folks you are trying to raise money from, but its bad for public dialog. In the long run, we'd be better served by truthful, serious dialog than the strident misquotes from culture war profiteers.

I guess it all depends on how you look at things in life, and how you read the book.
I couldnt find it anywere that the book was supposed to be written in a My Diary format.

Does expierimentation make a person GAY ? No, but it can help them CHOOSE what road(s) they want to take in life.. :) ;)

The book was written by teenage girls between 14-18. It's an amalgum of poem, essay, drawings, story, etc. A sample chapter (the first) including of photo of these nefarious teen authors is available online at the publisher's website at: http://www.annickpress.com/pdf/LittleBlackBook.pdf
It gives a pretty clear idea of the structure of the book.

The "evil" place that put together the book is St Stephen's Community House http://www.ststephenshouse.com/index.shtml

Among the terrible programs run by St Stephen's are:
Life sustaining supports for homeless and socially isolated people
    Activities for at-risk youth
    Child care for growing families
Employment services for youth and adults
Settlement assistance and English classes for new Canadians
Services for frail and isolated seniors
Health and wellness promotion for women, families and people living with or at-risk of contracting HIV/AIDS
    Mediation to solve interpersonal disputes

The latest St Stephens Newsletter, telling all the terrible things they're doing to help the homeless get back on their feet and other programs can be seen at: http://www.ststephenshouse.com/newsletter_...st/fall2006.pdf

If only teen girls would rely on wholesome role models who can give them real information, like Britney, Paris, Lindsey, or all those great hetero girls in the Girls Gone Wild ads. ;)
